Hi,
I browse this message board often, I have never joined until now. I suppose that I never really had anything I felt strongly enough about to post. I began exchanging emails with DEADBOLT on here a few months ago. I spoke via email with several people who thuroughly seemed to enjoy their experiences with him. I finally decided last week that I wanted to order a WRX. I decided to do so through DEADBOLT (Jerry.) I called his dealership which is about 8 hours away from my home. When I called in and asked for him the phone was picked up very quickly and I did not hear the name well so I just began talking about the WRX. The guy didn't seem to know much at all about the car, he didn't even know it had a 6-disc CD changer. I had spoken with him several times via email and he seemed to know a good bit about the car. When I mentioned the "I-Club" he seemed confused. I thought that seemed odd so I asked "Is this really Jerry?" He replied that no this is not, this is Terry. I asked to speak with Jerry and was told that I needed to speak with him that he was the only one at the place that really knew much about the WRX. He also began to berate everyone at the dealership, and implied that he was one of the managers. He was extremely crude, prevented me from speaking with whom I needed to speak with, and was just downright IGNORANT. It is so amazing that there can be such differences in the personnel at a place of business. Deadbolt has been quite helpful, and seems to assist many people that ask, even if it is a deal where he won't get to sell the car (he even sent me all the order codes, option codes, availability of options, etc. which must have taken a while.)This Terry person is what we used to call a "skate" when I was in the car business. I was a manager of a Porsche dealership for 12 years before retiring, and this man would not have lasted 1 day under me. If any of you deal with Prestige Subaru in Asheville, NC, DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT deal with this redneck, deal with DEADBOLT (Jerry) if at all possible! Deadbolt, if you read this, I sent your General Manager an E-Mail today, you might want to follow up with that situation whenever you can. This guy has no business at a dealership as anything other than a janitor and if he was that only after hours when no customers are around. I am sorry if this appears to be an attack on your dealership, it is not intended that way, I have heard many good things about you

I talked to that guy (unfortunately) when I tried to buy my car. I think his name is Terry Wilson, Williams, or something like that. He is a SLEEEEEEZE! He was more interested in taking me for a test drive than the car, if you get my meaning. He said that if I would come over to his house that I could get a better deal. Never talked to the Deadbolt person, so I can't base an opinion there.

prezza,
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Prestige. I bought my RS from Jerry, and he was top notch. It's amazing that the best and worst Impreza salesperson in the country work in the same dealership. Do get in touch with Jerry. You won't be sorry. Ross N. |

Most dealers are like that, 1 or 2 cool salesfolk who are very knowledgeable and nice, the rest not so good... There are exeptions though, some dealers lack any decent salespersons (Roseville Subaru :mad
and others, are full of helpful salespersons (Auburn Subaru). Oh well.. ![]() |

Woo hoo! I got my car at Gold Rush Subaru in Auburn. They are great, and even offered me a WRX. Sorry I had to decline (for now). I finished the dealings of buying out my lease with Subaru of Thousand Oaks in So. Cal. Quite a different story. They sales guy I dealt with was CLUELESS! Had to go in 3 times to finish a job that should have taken one visit. The last sales guy finally had a clue. (Other than that one instance, I don't really have a problem with Subaru of TO. On the whole, a decent dealership). Definitely hit and miss out there. Sounds like you've got a hit and a miss at the same dealership. Hope you find Deadbolt!

I purchased my Forester at Prestige last year. We were up visiting my wife's family in Asheville and just happened by there. We talked with Jerry (I assume that is the same Jerry as this Deadbolt you are talking about) He was great, sent us a couple of letters afterwards, and even called twice. We decided to go through with it, and called set up an appointment to get the car and everything. That Terry guy picked up, assured us that he was the one that we talked to, which we believed. When we got there we discovered that Jerry WAS the one we talked to and that this Terry guy was trying to steal the deal. Then, when Terry saw us talking to the original guy, he started strutting around the showroom yelling something to the effect that he didn't "snake" us whatever that means. And that he was not in the mood to listen to anybody saying he did. This really made for an unenjoyable experience and unless I could be sure that I was talking with Jerry I don't think I would do business again.

I wonder if this Terry guy is related to Scott (I think his name was Wilson also) that I bought my car from there in 1999? He was quite easy to deal with, and I would buy from him again if given the opportunity.

No Scott and Terry are definately not related. (Scott is Wilbanks, and Terry is Williams.) I apologize to all of you that have had bad experiences, but I am glad that none of them have directly been because of me.

I have to say that you have more patience than I do Deadbolt. You don't seem very upset at all about this. Apparently your general manager doesn't mind much either, I sent him that email yesterday and have not heard anything back yet. If possible EMAIL or PM me the number and name and I will call him.
I am going to write to SOA in Cherry Hill about this situation, someone like this could ruin not only the reputation of your dealership, but cast a shoadow of doubt about Subaru to people who are interested in buying from your dealership. How heavily does Subaru look at CSI? This type of behavior definately is not the best way to gain customer confidence. |

Deadbolt, you have my pity to have to work with such a low-functioning primate as that Terry dude. The only reason that I even went over there was that my brother had bought a car from Van there. When I went he wasn't there so I had to talk with Terry. BAD CHOICE!
EDIT: I wonder if Van even knew I was there? [This message has been edited by subiesarah (edited February 17, 2001).] |

I know Terry, we party together.
He is the sales manager at Prestige. Why did you talk to him first instead of a salesmen? [This message has been edited by Wannarex (edited February 17, 2001).] |

No, Terry is not the sales manager, or any manager for that matter at Prestige. He is a USED CAR salesperson.

I talked with that guy once about 8 months ago purely by accident. I came in asking for Scott whom I had talked to on the phone earlier in the day. That guy was the one that I talked to, he told me that Scott was on vacation (which I thought was odd because I had just spoken with him not 3 hours earlier.) then proceeded to tell me how he was the real deal maker there, and that I would get a much better deal from him than Scott. I didn't really know Scott I had just spoken with him so I talked with the Terry guy about an Outback Sport that they had on the lot. I asked him how much they would give me for my 84 GTI which was in pretty good shape. He looked outside, laughed, and said "Not much." I guess he saw that I didn't think that it was too funny so he went looking for the appraiser. He came back in about 10 minutes cursing, saying "Caint ever find nobody around here who wants to sell a car, even the managers dont care enough to stay around." He ranted and raved to one of the other guys in the office about how someone (I can't remember the name but apparently it was the appraiser.) didnt care about anything except going to lunch with that
I would stay away from that low-life at ALL COSTS! I have heard great things about that dealership, but not a one of them was about Terry. I was referred to Scott by a friend who had bought an Outback from him. [This message has been edited by petsubie (edited February 17, 2001).] |

Deadbolt,
I hope you're sending a print of this thread to your management. This type of behaviour from any sales professional is totally unacceptable. |

At least he was sober when he talked to you guys. I had called and talked to him, went to the dealership to look at a car late in the afternoon. He pulled in in a car with someone and got out he stumbled over to me smelling like a brewery. When I asked if I could look at the car we had talked about he said that he was off and had beers to drink. He said that if I would come back another day he would talk to me then as long as it was before 5:00 (they stay open till 8:00)

SubieSarah,
I just had to sign up and tell you this! The guy I am dating now is a member on here. Back before I was seeing him, I had gone over there and asked to look at a few used cars. Is this Terry guy you are talking about Tall with dark hair a mustache, and glasses? This guy's name was Terry also I think. When we went out on a drive he put his hand on my knee. I didn't think much of it, so I pushed it away and he put it back. I pushed him away a couple of times and he finally got the hint, or at least that is what I thought. I was 4 months pregnant then. He plain out asked me to have sex with him, and when I told him I was pregnant he said that just meant I was good at it. Very sad excuse for a salesperson. |
