Default climate ctrl. lights and switch lights out

Hello all...
I noticed the other day that all my climate control lights are out, except for the ones which come on to indicate if air is directed towards legs, defrost, vent, etc when the corresponding button is pressed. I can't really remember exactly what is supposed to be light on that panel. I kinda remember that a lot of the buttoms you'd think would be lighted, only have an indicator if the button is pressed.
I also don't have hazard switch lighted, or power mirrors. Defrost switch is lighted, fog has on indicator light working, but not switch light. Cruise has on indicator, but not switch light. I was just wondering if all these lights might indicate a specific wiring problem or fuse (although I didn't notice a likely candidate). But maybe I just have a crap load of bulbs to change. To I need to get all these at the stealership?
thanks
micum

Mine went out a while ago. Check out this LINK on the web. It indicates some low cost bulbs you can buy at Radio Shack to save $$$ over dealer parts, and it gives instruction on how to replace them. I did this and everything is still working great.
Like subiekid said, there are also some threads here and on ScoobyMods.com with additoinal instructions and pics.

Have fun.

Micum - the mirrors sound like a fuse issue..check those first.

There is no more Cruise on your car, as the STi wheel disables it since it eliminates the controls.

The climate control lights are a common issue- one of the most common things these cars have. Do a search, there are lots of threads on it

Default Scoobymods to the rescue

Scoobymods will show you how to replace the lights in the climate controls of a BD/BG - when the light goes out on those I think the entire panel doesn't light up, except for the A/C button.

Post

Scoobymods has detailed instructions and bulb/part numbers. You can either get them at RS or the dealership. They are cheap either way.

Don't pay to have the work done, it's way too easy to do.

Peace,

Thumbs up

I totally agree with the links above - the Radio Shack bulbs are a lot cheaper than the dealer bulbs and the work is easy.

I replaced the haz and climate lights using these posts. I even took it a step further and replaced the factory radio button backlight - not quite as simple as the others, but not impossible.

These bulbs are slightly dimmer than factory, but since they all go out you'll probably end up replacing them at the same time. Then you won't see the difference.

JPX-You don't happen to know of instructions on how to replace the radio button backlights do you? Three of the buttons "1-2-3" are out.

Thanks in advance!

Man almost 1.5 years since I logged on this board. Sorry about dredging up such an ancient thread. But I figured it was a good place to pick up where I left off.

Oquipah, by now you've either bought a new car or figured out the radio lights already. But in case you or anyone else hadn't, there is so much more info on these lights on the forums.
It was pretty simple to change the lights. It requires removing the radio and carefully removing the casing and plastic cover to get to the backside of the circuit board for the 1-2-3 (or 4-5-6) buttons. The same Radio Shack lights can be used.

Default radio display backlight bulbs?

JPX, do you know if it is that simple to also change the radio station display (ie. the LCD that says "disc" or 90.9, etc.) backlight bulb too?
thanx

I think it is about the same as the rest. There is probably the one board the display is soldered to that might need to be peeled back to get to the bulbs. I've done this type of repair on a home stereo LCD - just a pain with the small leads.
