Question Will the JDM STi Spec C......

.....steering rack fit in the USDM 04 STi? I have an opportunity to pick one up for a good price. Just don't know if the RHD rack will work with our LHD stuff.

And

If it doesn't fit, could I rebuild the USDM rack with the JDM rack's guts?

Thanks

(MODs please move this for me. I don't know which forum this question should go in.)

It won't work as it stands, as for ripping the pinion gear out and re-using them, that I don't know. It looked like a pain in the ass.

But can it be done?

I'd really like try this as a fun project. If it can be done but it's really hard, that's cool. But if it just can't be done then that sucks!

I would recommend just getting the Rev-Lab steering rack. It's bolt-in and actually slightly quicker than even the Evo VIII steering. No phone number listed on the wbesite (it says it's being remodeled) but you can contact them by email at rev-lab@rogers.com

To answer your question... NO.
Subaru RHD & LHD steering racks are not interchangeable. The pinion gear and rack are cut oppositely. Even if you could change change over both of those the bulkhead, power piston & inner rack seals would be on the wrong end.

If you want 2.25 turns lock to lock, you can buy one from fourstarmotorsports for $900 CAD. If you want 2 turns lock to lock send in your rack and get a rebuilt one from rev-lab for $1100 USD. I might have gone the cheaper route if I had known, but we'll see after Im done installing my super-quick R2 rack.
