Talking Enhanced UTEC Interface ...?

Ok Guys, here's the deal. I'm in grad school at Rensselaer Polytech, and I need to do a project for my Software Engineering 1 class. My idea was that I'd make a better windows interface to the utec instead of having to use hyperterminal. I thought of such options as.

1) When the program starts, it downloads all of the maps, and you edit locally, and then hit connect, and it loads them all back up. Sort of like working with PDA synchronization.

2) Ability to back up maps based on date, etc...

I have til december to complete the project, and we have to write papers and documents on them based on 3 groups. The customers, the users, and the developers. Obviously my partner and I are the developers, and I figured I could take the information you guys could provide me with as the "users" information. And, I could either make up the customers, or ask TXS about it, if they were interested.

Thanks guys, I need suggestions, features you want, etc....Lay it on me..

~Mike

A good looking graphical Dashboard, hotkeys to make logs, and stop, like, press A to begin logging genericlog1.txt or something, then press B to stop

A good looking UI would be a big plus, i'd probably say all you really need is a nice dashboard and good looking UI, and hotkeys... thats all i can think of that i'd want.

nice looking dashboard would be a big plus, nothing says "Awesome Car" like all your gauges on the screen of a laptop =)

as long as they dont look cheezy, heh!

hehe cool thanks, after talking it over with one of my friends who programs alot, I may drop down the first version of this (ie, the one that I need to have done by december) to having only a dashboard, and map backups....its much easier to read data, that it is to send it back...hehe

If you need some help with the code I can help you. I wrote an app called autologger that does what you are talking about. What development environment are you going to use for your project?
