Default Oil leak question for 1999 Legacy Limited Edition

My Dad has a 1999 Legacy Wagon Limited Edition.
He was telling me he has an Oil leak at the "cam cover".
He says when he drives it smokes, but is running fine and hasn't had to add any oil yet. It has about 86000 miles on it.

Is it normal and if so is it an easy fix?

I believe I have a similar problem. Hopefully, it can hold until I get some money to get it repaired. Also, there's another thread regarding this. Check it...

Somewhat common occurance for the Legacy's, done 2 so far (actually my mechanic has), but yeah oil "drips" onto the headers and when they heat up after warming up it burns the oil resulting in the smoke/smell.

yea at that mileage it is about time for that seal to go. Not terribly expensive to fix though. For him he may want to get his timing belt done anyway, it's only 4k early, and then they'll have to re-do the seal at that time.
