Post Acura Civic?

I saw a very strange thing a few weeks ago and I have been looking for an explanation.
I was riding along the freeway and I saw a new kind of car but it was old..

I saw on the back of a car that looked VERY much like the new civic the badges
ACURA 1.6 EL

Has acrua badged the civic as one of their own. I have heard no such rumor. Is this a product
of a clever person, or acuras attempt to sell more civics for much more money.

It's not rice. It only exists in Canada. It is a civic with some luxuries and slap in some chrome grilles and Acura badges. IMHO you're better off with a civic.

Its called an Acura EL. Its based on the Civic frame with different front and rear bumpers, hood, fenders, and I think trunk.

I have seen it few times in Washington State. Yes, they only exist in Canada.
I don't really like that. What is the spec of that car anyway??

The 1.6EL is to the Civic what the G20 is to a Sentra. Economy Luxury, 1.6L?

Actually, the 1.6EL has front and rear sway bars, leather options, different headlights(like an Accord), bumpers, a sunroof is available (if I'm not mistaken, it's never been available on sedans...). It's about 2-4 grand more than a Civic Ex, not sure it's worth it but it does hadle better.

It's only in saloon form. It has 127hp...much like the US civic EX.

Yes, I read about these awhile ago in the front of Road and Track. That must have cost quite a bit to do the EVO conversion... hardly seems worth it.

A friend of mine in Toronto has a an Acura 1.6 -- I actually like it a lot (got to drive it when he was drunk ) for what it is. Much nicer than a Civic EX...

Actually, the current Integra body style is based off an entirely different chassis from the Civic/Accord.

Hey Syms, you should have seen that car before it was painted yellow.. It was a white integra and when he retrofitted the prelude lights on, you could see the paint 'plaster'all over the rear.. but it does get your attention in the yellow car.. However the look of hte prelude lights on the intergra is unique..

Greg,

You are mistaken. The 94-2001 Integra is based on the Gen 5 civic (92-95). As the Gen 2 integra was based on the Gen 4 civic (88-91). The Gen 1 Integra WAS based on the Accord. That was back when the Accord was about the same size as the current Civics.

OK, I guess I'll have to string up the person who told me this (boy was he convincing). True, the Integra is based off the Civic, as the guys at Honda-Tech let me know...
