Exclamation Engine noise

I have a 1997 Legacy gt with 90000 km on it. The car seems to have some engine noise while driving. clicking noise when accelerating. Does not seem to be anything serious but never the less it is not a quite as it was when it was brand new i would assume. I did buy the car used with 85000 km on it so i have put 5000 km on it since i bought it . I guess i just never noticed it before. I just want to know with this being my first subaru if the noise is common wear or a normal sound or if a simple tune up will get my car back to normal. Please note that the noise is in no way noticeable to any one but me but no one cares for my car as much as i do ethier. Also if i take it to subaru what can i expect to pay for the work.

Thanks for any help or info

Sounds like piston slap, a common noise in the Phase1 motors. Should lessen as the car warms, and I wouldn't be too concerned about it unless it becomes objectionably loud. Most certainly don't spend any $$ trying to "cure" it. IIRC the valves aren't due to be adjusted until timing belt replacement at 105K-miles.

I suggest doing the timing belt (and all the rest) every 60,000 miles (100,000) km even if the manual says 105,000 miles.

Pretty expensive proposition when looking at the Phase1 motors Mike, and why would you spend that kind of money at just 60% of the factory recommendation? That kind of cash would buy a new suspension FCOL!!

right now im at 90000 so it will be going in the shop for a regular tune up in about 6 months so that time gives me time to put some extra money away for the whole ten yards of repairs and tune up costs

thanks
