Default Solo II mods

The bug has bitten and I want to go faster!

Currently running my 97 Legacy Outback in CSP with the following mods:

clutch/flywheel
Whiteline rear anti roll bar and links
Whiteline front anti roll bar links
Air intake
underdrive pulley
205/55x16 Azenis
greenstuff pads
Ground control coilovers on KYB GR2 struts
Stainless stell brake lines
-1.5 front camber
0 rear camber
o toe f & r

Here is what I am considering:

front camber plates (-2.5)
competition drivers seat (wife loves heated passenger seat)
more aggressive dampers, pref adjustable
replacement bushes
cat-back exhaust
high flow cat
front anti roll bar bushes
anti lift kit
front strut bar
225/50 x 15 competion tires on stock rims
odyssey 15lb battery
move battery to rear
rear lsd
front lsd
remove any weight I can

The question is, with limited funds, what are the best mods for the buck and have I missed anything?

Anything up there illegal?

Paul

For SP, I think the ALK is not illegal. KC or anyone else remember off hand?
Other then that, you look good for SP.

Thanks.

I don't want to look good. I want to go faster though.

Any suggestions for the next mod.

Do you mean "is" illegal or "isn't"?

14.10 Engine and Drive Train, Paragraph U:

Any accessory pulleys and belts of the same type (e.g., V-belt, serpentine) as standard may be used. This allowance applies to accessory pulleys only (e.g., alternator, water pump, power steering pump, and crankshaft drive pulleys). It does not allow replacement, modification, or substitution of pulleys, cogs, gears, or belts which are part of cam, layshaft, or ignition drive or timing systems, etc. Supercharged cars are excluded from this allowance. This does not permit replacement of integral pulley-damper/balancer assemblies. Alternate pulley materials may be used. Idler pulleys may be used for belt routing in place of items which the rules specifically allow to be removed, such as smog pumps and air conditioning compressors. They may serve no other purpose. Supercharged cars may not change the effective diameter of any pulley which drives the supercharger. (11/2002)

Also, in terms of the weight savings, you need to be careful. I suggest reading section 14.2 Bodywork. You cannot remove the seats completely for example.

In general, except with the questionable under-drive pulley, things seem to be OK. However, usually, with these things what modifications are performed is not as important as how those modifications were performed.

You really need to be aware of subtle differences: SP Rules

Your car belongs in FSP, not CSP. You'll never be competive in CSP outside a possible local event. Subarus NOC belong in FSP.
Not that you'd be competitive in FSP, either, but...

The new Whiteline ALK that are the offset-bushings (new product) are indeed legal in SP.

You can use any front seat so long as it can carry a "real" person. E.g. a Kirkey racing seat is legal. A miniture baby seat would not be...

The rule 14.10 quoted by FSelekler has been superceeded and any crank pulley is now allowed - damper or not.

I re-ordered them the way I would do it considering a limited budget. I left off the fancy dampers because it will become apparent to you when you really need and can use them. Same with sticky tires which are really the best bang for the buck, but which I don't consider a "mod".

odyssey 15lb battery
move battery to rear
front camber plates (-2.5)
anti lift kit
replacement bushes
front anti roll bar bushes
cat-back exhaust
high flow cat
rear lsd
front lsd
front strut bar

225/50 x 15 competion tires on stock rims

Hey Paul,

Did you and Chris pick up an STi? I saw both of you guys listed as driving an STi at the last event.

Ahh, I must have missed the print; thanks for pointing it out Steve.

Thanks, these are great responses to my post and very helpful.

Let me try to respond to some of the questions posed and some of the comments.

zzyzx:
I agree, my car belongs in FSP but as yet it is not listed; only the GT. My car is essentially a Street Prepared GT so I really want to run in that class next year especially considering the other cars listed.

PaulC:
Thanks for your suggested modification order.
I think I am poised to do the battery though I may only swap them over for competition. If it ony weighs 15lb how much difference does it really make to move it? How much extra wire weight do you add anyway? Front camber plates are nice, well more camber would be, but they are relativly expensive. One of the least expensive mods is the strut tower bar but you put it last. I have always wondered what good they did.

I am really interested in making the car lighter but it seems there are only a few legal options i.e. seats and wheels.

I kinda weighted everything according to bang for the buck..

The battery isn't a huge difference but is cheap. Camber plates are pricey but they will really transform your car into a mean handling machine. I put the strut bar last because it does more harm than good until you address the bushings IMO, unless yours are fairly new.
