Post Both low beams are gone!

Scenario last night:
1. Started car and turned on headlights
2. Within 2 seconds BOTH headlamps went off.
3. Highbeams work in both headlamps
4. Both Corner lights working
5. Both Fog lights working
6. Checked all fuses under dash
7. Checked all fuses and relays under hood

Is it safe to assume that both headlight bulbs lost the low beams at the same time?

Thanks in advance,

Adam

i've only heard of that happening when something either in the wire, or wiring harness that plugs into the bulb gets either fried or melts. check the connection between the harness and buld and make sure it is clean from any and all dirt. and check to see if any of the wires like melted. that happened on my old car and i had to get a whole new wiring harness for the light.
Also, are you using stock bulbs? or a higher wattage bulb?

The same thing happened when I had some Hella H4s. I heard it had something to do with the voltage drop, and a new wire harness was the way to fix it. Of course, I have no electrical skills, so I don't know how to correct the problem.

Thanks for the replies, trojan9x and TT.

I've been running a set of Naxos lights, not higher wattage, and also for more than 20k miles with no problems(until now!)

I'll check the harness next.

definately sounds like a short or wiring issue to me... i lost both my fogs on the GT due to the way i had them wired up...

you are on the right track... check your wiring harnesses...

Lightbulb

Same thing happened to me with a pair of Xenon bulbs at about 20000kms. As soon as I started the car, FLASH and then off.

Now let me relay some info,

On our cars as we all know we don't have to shut the lights when we turn off the car, so we leave them on (not anymore!), then we start the car a surge goes to the headlights and theres your probable cause. Makes sense to me so now I turn off my lights almost always when I turn off the car.

Coincidence wins!

Both low-beams blew out at the same time! Now running PIAA Super White 60/55(part #15660).

And I will turn my lights of manually before shutting the car off as not to surge the lights when starting.

Thumbs up

Woo hoo! Well, if that's the probable cause, I'll put my new H4s back in the car. If they burn out, I'll let you guys/gals know.

Now if I can only remember to turn off my lights before starting the car...
