was there a 6 speed made for the gc8 style imprezas? i would like one in my car and i'm wondering if a jdm 6 would be easier (and probably cheaper ) than the new sti box. thanx

No factory GC8 6spds. All 6spds for the suby are dimentionally the same USDM/JDM/EDM they fit with a little "tunnel work" and other parts.

i-speed has done these swaps, NO tunnel work, I think that you should be able to get the whole set up for 6k, frt&rr LSD, trans everything.

I am thinking that for all the options that this is the best. The 5spd is just a poor trans for much'o power.

Correct - no tunnel work is necessary. Of course we had the engine out, which made the 6-speed easier to slide in.
I will take some pics and post them.

A cheaper alternative that will give you good results are the gears from an STi RA. But ti is a 5sp.

You can get just the gears for around 1200$ and it fits in the stock casing. But i believe you need a new main shaft and pinion shaft becuse I was told you would otherwise get whining in 1st and 2nd gear. I think this is the way I am going.
