For those of you who have bike racks attached to the factory first generation legacy (BC/BF) roof rack...
What fits? What works? According to the websites, Yakima and Thule do not have applications for the first generation legacies. I'm guessing that they might have at one point, but that it is currently obsolete. Is it true that the Subaru branded bike rack was made by Yakima? Anyone know if it is possible to still buy one? Thanks in advance for your comments.

The similarities between our cars, user names and bike racks are amazing!
Anyway, you must mean wagon, right? If so, then I can't comment on that fit, but here's a link to my car on a friend's website with a Yakima Rack. If you need part #'s for these towers, etc. Let me know. Choose Image Gallery/Subarus and Scroll down to "Jim's 94 Turbo". It's a few cars down the list.http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html Jim |

I've seen Yakima's on a 1st gen wagon. I know the outback(BG) roofrack is the same as the BF roofrack. Or, at least I'm 99% sure. You could always buy BG outback adapters, and return them if they don't fit.
edit: By this I mean the Outback factory roof rack. They have the raised roofline, unlike the regular Legacy. The Outback has a 3 post roofrack design, whereas the Legacy has a 2 post(and much shorter). Last edited by Speedwagon; 09-30-2003 at 01:16 PM. |

Jarvis is my last name. Looks like I forgot to mention, my car is a 94 turbo wagon. I'd like to figure a way to attach my mtn bike to the factory roof rack.
Maybe it is possible to go stand alone with the yakima towers, clips, etc, but from the looks of things, I think the towers would interfere with the factory rack. Ron Jarvis 94 turbo wagon Richmond, VA |

If it is the same as the BG I have Yakima lowriders.
If you PM me with your email address I can take a picture and send you a shot of the rack on the car. MV |
