Default We are underestimated...

Have you noticed these entry level sedans trying to race us? Maybe it's just me, but what is going on?? They pull up at the red light and give you THE EYE or they don't look at you and pretend that they aren't going to take off on the green and then they do. I have beaten a RSX, a Lexus SC300, many a honda, and even a bugeyed 2.5 RS! All those with my stock 2.2L Wagon. I don't know about you guys but I would like to know what they are thinking when they see my grocery getter pulling away from them. I just think it's funny because they expect to at least beat us if not leave us in the dust. Is this going on anywhere else?

Default Bull Meter Is Off The Charts

They Bull meter is really peeking on this one.

The only way your going to beat a stock RS with your stock wagon is to do this:

"pretend that you aren't going to take off on the green and then you do"

Default Alas I was wondering if any one would challenge me.

I did beat a 2.5 RS NOT a WRX. I was at the stop light and this new RS comes up next to me, revving like crazy, young kid, on green I floor it and we are getting on the freeway, I got up to around 70 an kept it through a curve in the fast lane. Then I slowed down and got in the right lane and he kept going in the fast lane gaining speed. I believe I have more high end torque which I believe is one of the factors in me winning. Also he couldn't drive his stick. He couldn't shift fast enough and I have an auto.

so ummm yeaaahhhhh...

I have a 2.2L auto wagon. And even I will admit it.

It's really freaking slow.

You might not notice it in 1st or 2nd because of the gearing, but when it comes to 50+ mph it's like watching paint dry.

seriously

Acutally, by friend has a bugeyed Outback sport (same as 2.5rs). That thing is sllllllloooooowwwww. I have no idea why, but my GT spanks it.

so he could be telling the truth.

I can't ever beat them. But what do you mean because of gearing? first and second are the slowest! I don't peak until mid range. And yes perhaps and most likely so it was a fluke but I did beat the kid.

I have a 95 Impreza L with the 2.2 and would get its but handed to it by a non V-Tech Civic. I gaurantee I will walk on your Legacy with it.

Either your runnig into a number of punk kids that miss gears every time they race your or somebody is over exagerating a little.

By the way is your legacy front wheel drive?

Default Like I said

I have beaten Hondas ie other entry level cars. Not suped up ones. I am simply bragging about the wins over other stock vehicles. No my Legacy is AWD. I know you can put it in FWD with the fuse, and I have. However, I learned that you shouldn't put it in FWD for too long do to the differential getting screwed up.

Default My main point

I got side tracked now. My main point of this thread wasn't to argue with you guys. It was to see if any one has noticed that the general population of car owners/drivers don't realise the potential of the subaru engine and AWD capabilities. Not to mention brag a little.

Hmmmm...I spank 2.5 rs's all the time. Even been known to spank a WRX or two...or three...on 2.2 litres. Don't even get me started on Hondas and the like.

Not at all. Its the way you presented your question while simultaniously bragging about something that obviously seems like a fluke or many multiple flukes in a row.

Its the same thing as someone saying they are making 300 wheel horsepower with their WRX and then they tell you that they don't have any fuel delivery mods.

Lets look at Power to Weight Ratios for a second:

Your 96 Legacy Wagon 2.2
Weight: 2915
Power: 135
Torque: 140

Power to Weight Ratio: 21.59 lbs per horsepower
Torque to Weight Ratio: 20.821

2003 Impreza 2.5RS Automatic
Weight: 3020
Power: 165
Torque: 166

Power to Weight Ratio: 18.3 lbs per horsepower
Torque to Weight Ratio: 18.19

1995 Honda Civic EX Coupe
Weight: 2443
Power: 125
Torque: 106

Power to Weight Ratio: 19.54 lbs per horsepower

subster - I don't think you got legacy92ej22t's point. He is turbocharged and probably modified. He was making a joke when he said he could beat RSs and WRXs.

I don't mean to argue just trying to keep the over exagerations and BS to a minimum around here. Its true arguing over the internet is like winning the gold in the special olympics. You won the race but your still retarded.

Not that your a bad person or that I don't like you its just slightly funny when a person with a car that most of us have experience with comes on the boards and talks about beating cars, even though fully stock, that we all know and have experience losing too. If you yourself say it happened but probably was a fluke and due to in experienced driving on your oponents part then that would be accepted and you wouldn't be made fun of. However when you talk about beating RSXs and RSs your inviting it.

Thumbs up As the French say

Touche. pronounced (Too-SHAY) I am sorry guys, I must've been on some serious crack to think that I can talk smack online and get away with it. Earlier, I had an out of character masculinity/testosterone boost and decided to BS. Although, I am not a liar, all of those were true. Oh, and MY99 2.5GT, I got his point after I posted that and realized the year of his car, duh, of course he's boosting. Anyways no hard feelings. I still love you guys and Subies. Thanks for putting me in my proverbial place. PS: do you have all of those numbers in your head or did you look them up MY99?

Is an RSX an entry level sedan? I was under the impression it was a coupe. But your car is an entry level sedan...sooooaren't you one of the people you are talking about.

So, was this all BS? Couldn't really follow your final post. Oh well, enjoy your street racing....sounds really fun.

IMO first and second are low enough gear ratios that the car accelerates reasonably hard. Just enough to make me think it's not that bad. I'm not talking about a particular rev range, just these two gears. But once I hit third I start thinking about power adders. Maybe flintstones style foot power? JATO? I dunno but I just don't like it. I have very real dreams about subie kid style EJ22T transplants.

In case I didn't answer your question, the engine has more mechanical advantage in lower gears, so it accelerates harder. Given WOT at 5k RPM in 1st, it accelerates harder than WOT at 5k RPM in 3rd.

Heh... I beat cars that don't know we're racing all the time.

On my bicycle

Can only keep up til 25 or so, though. Still kind of amusing.

www.edmunds.com is a great site to pull specs. They are very consistent with actual weight of vehicles unlike a few other sites I have visited that try and say my Legacy weighs 3700lbs and that my brother ultra light weight cherokee weighs 4800lbs.

My comment about legacy92ej22t wasn't simply that he has the turbo 2.2 but that he is most likely modified and running higher boost if he is beating WRXs and even GC8 RSs. Heres why:

92 Legacy Turbo
Weight: 3140
Power: 160
Torque: 180

PW Ratio: 19.63
Torque to Weight: 17.44

2000 RS
Weight: 2820
Power: 165
Torque: 166

PW Ratio: 17.09
Torque To Weight: 16.99

2002 WRX
Weight: 3085
Power: 227
Torque: 217

PW Ratio: 13.59
Torque To Weight: 14.21

If all things were equel, gearing and all, his legacy would need at least 235hp to keep up with the WRX. 250 to spank it good.
