Post Need your ideas! About I-Club.

Hi everyone,

I would like to ask you if there are any problem about I-Club that you would like to see fixed. Or if there were any in the past that got fixed already? Or is there anything that you would like to see improved in the current club?

I ask this because in a business communication course I have an assignment of writing a formal report on a proposal to an organization that I am a member of.

The proposal does not have to be implemented, actually the main point of the assignment is on report itself, not the proposal. So I would like to ask you if you can provide me some ideas to help me to make up a proposal.

Bring back the "search all" function. That's my only problem I have with this site.

the fact that for a while it seemed like this board couldn't go 4 hours without crashing, but that seems to be fixed now!

More "Mods" stuff would be nice. For example, how to install a gauge. I'm sure there are many people who would like to see that happen.

What do we get for helping you with your homework?
Anyway, how about a message when you're about to post a topic that reads: "Please search a topic before creating a new one".

I know that Imprezer probably can't do anything about this, but it would be nice to be able to add folders within your PM box... to sort things and get older messages out of your "inbox"

Build up the Aftermarket stuff.. The other day I was checking out websites for other cars looking for aftermarket stuff. See, i'm looking into getting a new car and I want to know what I can do to it. The section on our car doesn't do subarus justice! LOL

Here are some of my ideas for I-Club enhancements:

Is there anyway you can include the <META> tags that are used in the individual topic discussion pages, and apply them to the topic listing pages? Also including a refresh button (ie. when using the above meta tag you can link back to the same page) on the page would be nice. I often find myself browsing the General topics pages and noticing that my browser has cached pages from a few days ago and having to refresh the page using my right mouse button menu because the page uses frames. I realize that this would invoke a significant increase in server traffic, so maybe this could be an option/preference for those who wish to utilize a feature like this?

The META tag used in the individual topic pages is: <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache"> , and it works well in my testing with IIS5 and IE5.

An enhanced FAQ would be nice for Scooby Newbies like me (well, very soon at least).

The only other thing I would like to see is a larger, more detailed listing of parts in the PRODUCTS section. Ideas include comparisons between parts such as different air intakes, prominent locations to purchase such parts, and a reasonable estimation of prices (ie. Intake 'A' is typically about $150 and Intake 'B' typically goes for $300). This information, along with real details is valuable to me.

Thanx.

555 posts is a BIT high to get out of being a Scooby Newbie. Can you lower it by say...455?

Many thanks.

Wow... ok let me try to address these. Some can be fixed... most are just what the board software does and can't really be changed.

Search All: can't do it... it crushes the server. This is a known problem with the BB software. And they never intended the # of posts to be over 100,000. Plus people get lazy when that's an option. Even if they know exactly what they are looking for they will search all forums.
Crashing Problem: I agree with Alex, it was never that bad... but I do agree we had a few rough spots. It was just recently uncovered that this was most likely due to someone trying to be helpful, but ended up crashing the board because of it.
More Mods: They are coming... just keep an eye out.
Auto-Login: This does happen... the only reason it wouldn't is it you didn't read the instructions I posted when we changed domain names. If it's still not working do the following... the next time you visit the site (without your login info entered) Click on preferences... and click submit... then enter PMs with your username and login. This will set the cookies and magically every time you enter your info will auto-magically appear.
Please search before posting...: Hmmm... maybe if we really need it... but I don't think it's been that bad lately.
Permanent WRX and Impreza Forums: WRX is an Impreza... so we do have perm forums for them.
PM Folders: Sorry not a chance. Unless it comes out in the new version of the mod that someone wrote.
Aftermarket Stuff: Do you mean stuff in the products list? If so we are adding to it all the time.
Chat Function: It will make it's way back in some form or another.
Deleting Members: We do keep the lists pretty clean. We try to be pretty careful about deleting anyone who has posted messages. People tend to take time off from the board then come back after a looong time.
META Tags: The search tags relevant to topic just isn't an option, but the refresh might be possible. Once again this is at the mercy of the BB software.
Enchanced FAQ: Not a bad idea... we do intend on adding to it. We just need more time away from all the other parts of the site.
Number of Posts for Specialist: No way... it's a siginificant number and by about that time you really should be a specialist.
"Girls of the I-Club" section. We could make it really classy, artsy fartsy kind of stuff. Like, black and white pics of SubieGal wearing something small and leather posing with her car.....

OK, I'm going to Hell now right?

i think somebody said it already but some sort of cookie would be a great idea. Not just one that works per session but a permanent one would keep me from wearing out my name.
Thanks,

I agree 555 is a good number(despite the fact that it implies that we support a cigarette manufacturer) I joined the board soon after it jumped up from something like 60, I think Alex even put in a post about how pissed he was and said deal with it. At the time I didn't realize the implications, but now I'm starting to understand why the # has to be so high... Easy to say being in the 550s, but after 500 posts, you may not know much more about Subarus, or even cars in general, but you will have a pretty good understanding of this community and what it's about. By that time you will have learned all the unwritten rules and know how far you can push at those rules...

It was mentioned in another thread, but I'll add it here too. We should have a "Dealer Review" area, perhaps in the Enhanced FAQ. But provide a place to say, 'Hey, this dealer screwed me hard! I'm still very sore, and the spotting hasn't stopped, should I see an Rx?' OR to say, 'Yeah, So'n'So of Columbus Oh. is totaly cool with my '98 turbo and modded to Timbucktoo RS! If your thinking of putting on those Tiens and cat-back he'll still be happy to work on your car.'

Just as long as the reviews can be searched, so I could go to a search function and put in "Ohio" and it would give me all the dealer reviews in Ohio...

How about if the log in function would work correctly. I come to the site, click on Login to check my PM's, type in my username and password and the text I entered disappears, but that's it. I'm not logged in, and I can't check my PM's until I write in a thread [where I must log in again].
