Talking Pigs can't drive

i was driving though a local park this morning, and in a large parking lot, the police had a little drivers school deal set up. it was similar to a tight auto-x. i pulled over and watched them go at it for about 20 minutes to see if i had anything to fear. nope. the cop code of driving is as follows

1. Fast in, slow out
2. realize you've come in too fast and lock up the brakes, since that is the most effective way to slow down
3. while the fronts are locked up, try and turn.
3b. plow into cones, sending them flying (maybe they thought they were minorities)
4. be as jerky as possible with the controls.
5. make sure that your car is obviously way too softly sprung.

just thought i'd share. i really wanted to go out there with my impreza and show them what to do, but i don't think they would appreciate that. oh well, next time.

Yeah cops are terrible drivers. One night I got pulled over for 70 in a 30 and the cop told me not to speed. Then after giving me a warning he pulled a U-turn and peeled out and sped off. Hypocrite!

Hmmmmmmm... I'm gonna hafta ask my uncle to let me take one of those barges out and test it out.

BTW, you just may receive some hell from others on the board for calling cops pigs. I know there are at least 2 cops that occasionally peruse the board...

Cool

We PIGS aren't bad drivers, the people you saw driving on that course was probably trainees learning evasive maneuvers. It's much better to learn on a closed course then to plow into someones sooby in real life conditions isn't it?!Anyway, those Crown Vics do handle for @#%$ becuz the suspension is soft, but I do admit those cars have power and besides, can a sooby take a curb at 20 mph and not sustain any damage. As a PIG, I apologize for the bad seeds of the force. No matter where you go, there always there. It's not a perfect world...

On more than one occasion I have had police almost slide into me in less-than-perfect weather. usually in snow but sometimes in rain. i always just drove around them... in my FWD escort noetheless... every time it happens i wonder what we woudl do.. call the police for a report? could he write a report on an accident he caused? (they slide through stop signs and red lights btw) most likely, i think (based upon the attitude of police around here) he would write me a ticket of some sort, maybe write up an accident report showing me at fault, and drive away... stopping in the snow is a basic maneuver. if i can do it on bald tires in FWD and RWD vehicles they should be able to in the squad cars... the brakes and tires on the squad cars are kept up a lot better than my escort was.

i have seen cops do some really crazy driving.. to an extent you can say "oh well, they have a lot more training so they have higher limits" but some of the stuff ive seen was just scary, cops running redlights without slowing down (then shutting off their siren/overhead lights)... taking turns at excessive speeds, moving WAY too fast on highways (seen this all too often on 495), tailgating, and the times they do get into collisions with civilians (however rare), civilian aco****s of what happened are usually deemed not as credible, so they get off a lot more easily...

eugenekid-- I think the bigger problem is outdriving Motorola, not a single cop car.

oh boy, you hit a hot spot. I wouldn't accuse all officers of the law for being bad drivers. cus i'm sure they are some very good ones that you don't know about. I mean its not like they are required to have won a SCCA solo event or something.

I saw a cop...well heard a cop making his own course one day. I was driving around, about to go into Office Depot to get something (this place is pretty much abandoned-it was during the day and the parking lot was pretty much empty). I heard this...RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...and I was like, Cool, somebodys burning their rubber. I keep hearing it going RRRRRRRRR, amd I'm like what the hell? I start seeing white smoke coming from the side of the building and I think HEY ITS RIGHT THERE. I drive over quickly and all I can see through the smoke is the tail of a copper as hes leaving the lot. I got out of the car and saw all these tire marks. A was laughing pretty hard. I cop was doing donuts and stuff.

Where I work, there is a State Police Drivers training center next door. I get to watch all the new Cops learn to drive those big old sleds. They even have some of the cars with the anti-flip skid stuff on them. I think it looks like fun. They have all kinds of "people" cutouts that act as their cones. It is funny to see a police car crash right through a "family!"

Cool

i don't think he'll get flamed to badly to be honest; his post says more about him and his prejudices then it does about the Police. (not to mention a name taken from a crap book and even worse film) besides, i tend to be the most abrasive police officer on the board (judging by people's knee-jerk reactions to what i write).

as was said above, he probably saw trainees: TRAINING. as for the "all cops are maniacs behind the wheel" sentiment of some of the other posters; well yeah. some cops are too aggressive in just about everything they do, including but not limited to driving.

if we are going to start dealing in broad based prejudicial statements i'd have to say that the worst drivers i see are.... young males between 18 and 25. the most aggressive and reckless of all road users and the most active participants in fatal accidents strangly enough.

is there any chance you could explain the "thought they were minorities" remark please? maybe even back it up with some real world experience or at least some valid statistical data?
