Angry Tirerack.com Horror story - Poor customer service

Well, I got my KYB AGX adjustables in today, just in time for the NCAC autocross finals this weekend. On close examination, I noticed that they looked a little strange (They all had the adjustments on the tops of the strut instead of some having adjustments on the body for the rears.)
I called, and OF COURSE they sent me the wrong stuff, 2-Left fronts and 2-Right fronts + my eibach springs. I had them sent by 2 day express just because of the finals this weekend. I called them to see what they were willing to do (we have a wholesale account with them) the guy there told me quote, "That's a real shame I can get them picked up in about a week and the new ones to you by the 10th of October." I had ordered my G-Force R-1's from them, but after this, I will NEVER buy anything from them again and would encourage anyone who wants good service to avoid them as well. As long as they get you the right stuff its great but should they screw up, they make NO EFFORT to make any restitution for it.

Should call up and see if you can get another guy. They should at least be willing to cross ship for you.

They screwed up on a set of tires my uncle bought and shipped him another set-- he traded the others at Fedex.

Maybe it's something about the suspension.

Out of curiosity, why did you buy the AGXs from them anyway? $106 each plus s&h isn't a screaming good deal.

Colin-he mentioned that his dealership has a wholesale account with them. I suppose this means that he gets everything at dealer cost. Not a bad break.

Deadbolt-not much more I can say except "that sucks". I called several guys at Tire Rack before getting someone who knew what he was talking about with wheel offsets.

If that's true then they have additional motivation to provide bad service-- they're not making any money off you.

That is the funny thing, all the other high-performance parts suppliers that I have set-up accounts with are eager to get and keep accounts. Places like Tirerack like to (or at least should like to) sell in volume. i.e. sell 100 pieces at $5 profit rather than 10 at $50. Then again, suspension is NOT their forte, they are just a tire store I guess it was a valuable lesson, I will just have to set up an account with KYB direct and cut them out of it entirely.

BTW, there is something big coming in the not so distant future in the arena of performance stuff.

I would agree that maybe you just got a bad representative. I have had many very satisfactory transactions with Tire Rack.

The people were knowledgeable, they always shipped when they said they would and I have always gotten the right items.

I would also challenge people to name another business that contributes as much to amateur motorsports as Tire Rack does. Tire Rack is the major sponsor of the SCCA National Tour and ProSolo series.

KYB themselves is hard to get a hold of. Setting up a wholesale account with them is like pulling teeth. I should just go by their HQ, find out where the warehouse is, and go take a bunch of stuff. They're only about 10 miles from me...

I have a story to tell about Tirerack.com. Earlier this year when I purchased R tires, they sent me a set of 18" rims to which I have no clue to what kind of vehicle it fits, I refused delivery from UPS. I called them and they showed nothing about sending the rims to me. I was persistant in that they made a mistake and I would consider it credit card fraud if my card was charged for them. I told them that I never ordered them and refused delivery on it and to expect them back. They refuse to acknowledge my claim because they have no record of it! I get a phone call from them a week later and guess what they tell me that UPS will be by to pick the rims up, I told them that I had refused delivery on it last week. What sucks is that I had to run the Tirerack.com windshield banner at Nationals.

Deadbolt, are you running G-stock and what size G-forces did you get?

No, I'm running in DSP the G-Forces I got are 225-50ZR16's; a little extra treadwidth but almost the same overall height as the originals. I have to say up to date I have been pretty pleased with the tires.

Deadbolt,
Damn man, I hate to hear that. I wish we had noticed this when I was down there yesterday and maybe it would have been ealy enough to get something done.
Gary,
Deadbolt runs in our region in DSP, and is currently first in points in the North Carolina Autocross Championship series in that class. He is racing on BFG 225/50-16 slicks and kicking butt. All this with his stock struts and springs. When he finally does get his AGX's fixed, I will really be glad that I am running in STS.

That's a shame to hear how they treated you. I have been fortunate enough that I haven't gotten screwed "yet"(keeping the window open for future problems). Hey deadbolt, is sounds from what Templar said that your kicking butt in points minus this new mods. How has your intake been standing up to the abuse and has it made great impact on your cars performance up to date?

I have to say that I still have not had any problems at all with the intake I fabbed for the car. Aside from it catching every insect that passes within 20 feet of the front of the car LOL. The car is still performing wonderfully, and I have had no check engine lights or ecu codes related to the engine. Had some ABS problems due to an unrelated issue but other than that, nothing bad to report at all.

Sidenote: Templar and Dale Teague helped me install my eibach springs tonight, sadly minus the KYB's. Even with just springs, the car feels very different on the road. It has a much more solid and planted feel. I made a heck of a blast home from Dale's shop tonight, and it was faster and less noisy (less tire squeal) than usual. I hope this gives me enough of an edge for the NCAC finals on Sunday.
