Post Shiv can you use your connections to....

Get some imprezas in SCC. For instance Last month there were a bunch of articles on jettas and golfs. Well I know some of these imprezas are more modded then they are. So how about some articles on some imprezas. Maybe IMPREZER"s future monster or maybe pinoy's cool looks. just some examples.
P>S> Pinoy is the person with the grey impreza right?

And no offense, but a 10 page article on the TEC-II? Shouldn't that be in the Vishnu manual for it instead of the magazine? I'm getting really sick of that project... I wish we could see some actual articles on the Imprezas around (it's not like they aren't available or anything).

I dunno, I like Shiv's articles just because I learn something every month. Sure, they're technical, but better that than a highlight on some Impreza with crazy stickers and a mild turbo kit. The Honda guys get that all the time.

I'd be complaining if I paid $5 for that. After all, I get to see pics of those for free.

As for the Honda focus and the horribly biased writers, I don't read most of the magazine. I go straight for Project 2.5RS unless there's something that catches my eye in the TOC.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I love the Project 2.5RS... my comments were just directed at the last installment... it was just a bit tough to get through.

I would definitely have appreciated it more if I actually had a TEC-II system. I'm sure many people will benefit greatly from the article.

Yo El Kabong,

If you want to read articles with no content, buy Turbo magazine.

I for one can't wait to read Shiv's articles on his Impreza. In fact, I wish I didn't have to wait a month between issues. Simple fact of the matter, this board was the brain child of the Imprezident's for people, like them, to share info and educate themselves about our Subie's. If you're in this strictly for the image, please don't critisize someone who IMHO is the best thing that ever happened to the Impreza aftermarket community in North America.

Sorry for the rant, but your comment about his articles just really pi$$ed me off.

Peace,
MB

Question

While we are on the SCC subject, has this site ever been mentioned in the web section? I haven't gotten it long enough to know I was just curious.

While we're complaining about SCC I'll jump on the bandwagon. Is it really necessary to have a special Honda section? It's bad enough that Hondas make up nearly all of the aftermarket, do they need more promotion in what should be a "generic" sports car magazine? Shouldn't some magazine, it doesn't need to be SCC, be promoting some of the lesser known sport compacts that need more exposure? I mean, you can go buy magazines that talk nothing about Honda/Acuras, I realize that SCC wants a piece of that action, but it still irks me...

Nothing against Hondas, I own an ITR, so I'm certainly not bashing the brand, I just want to see coverage of cars that I don't see in every other magazine out there.

And one more little jab at Shiv... I appreciate the technical knowledge, but it's truly like reading a technical manual. (referring to the latest installment) I just want my car to go faster... if that's what the TEC-II can do, awesome. Now if you could just map my car with my (possible future) turbo setup and burn it onto a rom that I can just drop in... I'd be a happy camper...

Kabong, every other mag out there already provides "just enough info to make the car faster". Shiv was attempting to educate, to share a little knowledge and here you are complaining that it read like a technical manual.

A programmable ECU is not meant to be easy for Joe Average for plug in and configure. It takes work. He was attempting to convey that work and the gains it provides.

I must concur with markus to some extent on this one. Shiv's done some great things and promoted the Subaru every chance he gets. So what if the articles are technical, isn't that what makes them good reading?

As for SCC spending a fair amount of space writing about Hondas, what do you expect? The publisher is in the venture to make money, not to cater to us owners of what is largely viewed as a "quirky" car. If they used the whole magazine to promote the lesser-known cars, they wouldn't sell any mags. You can't blame them for being in business. You can, however, give some props to Shiv for realizing the potential of the 2.5RS and doing a project on it.

Marquis, you're right on the money. First and foremost SCC is in business to make money. That goal is reached by appealing to the largest body of readers not to the fringe elements which we Subie freaks populate (now at least). So be gratefull for the articles we do get (it's the only reason I subscribe). Keep the back issues and re-read them every few months. You'd be amazed at how an article that confused you in January make more sense in October because you've read other things and you total body of knowledge has grown. End of parental type ramblings. Keep up the good work Shiv.

Give some credit to SCC, for constantly supporting the performance image of the RS, they did make it and 8 great ride like 3 times. And they generally have nice things to say about the car.

Also, as great as Shiv has been to promote the aftermarket, remember, this is SCC's SECOND project impreza.

Thumbs up

I'm a little biased because I'm a customer, but wouldn't you rather have a magazine that tells you exactly what it means to own and tune a TEC-2? The article allows you to evaluate whether you're up to the task of running a TEC -- before the system seemed quite mysterious.

Or would you rather just see articles that say "TEC2 rox like an ox" without getting deep into the details? If so, Turbo or Hot Imports and Bikini Chicks might be more your style.

Colin,

No, you don't have to be a rocket scientist. Just a computer scientist (poking fun at myself here).

My car is 85% of the way back to driving like stock. But it sure feels like 90% of the tuning effort is going into this last 15%...

I love what shiv has done for our Imprezas and genuinely enjoy reading his articles but...I have to admit the last one caused a little discomfort. Not because I couldn't follow it but because of the conflict of interest. I don't believe it says anywhere in the article that the company is shiv's. Anyone not reading this board would not know this little piece of information. The article gives great praise thoughout for "Vishnu TECII thingamajigitz" which would lead one to believe that SCC has fully endorsed the product, through testing by an unbiased party. This is obviously not the case. It would be impossible for shiv to give an unbiased impression of his own product.
Don't get me wrong, I love the product and hope to be able to afford one sometime soon. I just don't think shiv's last article was very tactfull.

Again, the TEC-II is not my product. It is manufactured and supplied by Electromotive Inc, who have been engaged in the engine management biz for years. All I am doing is providing an avenue for Subaru owners, who don't want to machine and prototype their own custom parts, to take. For those who do, heck, I even told them how to do it.

ELKabong -- have you received the Nov. issue of SCC yet? If not you will def. not like the project 2.5RS article in there. It is way technicle. It is all about tuning the the TEC-II to make it work. I however look forward to the Impreza updates because I have been attempting to do alot of the mods that shiv has already done and the articles help set up a clear path to follow when attempting to get close to the same results.
Anybody know what ever happened to the Blue Impreza Shiv was working on? It just seemed to vanish from the mag. One month the are working on it the next they have an all new Impreza. Just my $.02

I'm just waiting for the suspension shoot out in Project Impreza.... man I missed those times when Shiv compared a few products together. It was fun...until the MAFs start breaking...again and again and again....until now we're in this TEC-II business.

Wow, you guys are good at reading most of a post. Here we go into the defense mode... I never said I didn't like the technical articles, on the contrary, I love them, I was just commenting that the last installment got a bit heavy. The Impreza Project has been invaluable to this community, I am very happy that shiv is undertaking this project. I was just letting him have it a bit for the last article, not being as good of a read as some of the previous ones, merely because of the large amount of heavy material involved.

Anyway, get off it guys. Some of you look for conflict in places where none exists. And don't worry, I think the all-mighty shiv can handle some critques of his work. That's part of being a writer. So please learn to read posts before making generalizations and taking things people say out of context.

Shiv keep up the good work. Eventually the Impreza will raise a few notches on the totem pole and they can afford to put more in all the mags. Until then we have one. I enjoy learning every month Most of which I read is totally latin to me though, but I still enjoy reading it. The problem is that it has been building up for a couple months now and people just want to see the outcome, the stats and numbers. Well you'll just have to wait till next month, just like me. Hey how about getting some more shots of project RS on the cover though. Is that doable?

Kabong... puh-lease. I read your whole post before I replied. Just as it is perfectly fine for you to whine about the technical writing, it's fine for the rest of us to show our appreciation for it.

I liked the TecII write up enough, that before I try 10psi, with ITC and J&S knock sensors, I'll be knocking on SHIV's door first!!

I think the article was great. El Kabong is kinda simple. I trolled on the SPCR egroup about a lightly modded RS being better vs his ITR and he fell for it.

Sorry Eric, darnit, I couldn't help myself
God, what have I started now...
