Default Clicking noise when turning on/off headlights

Hi All

I have a 2004 WRX Wagon and I noticed that when I turn the headlights on/off I hear a loud clicking sound from behind the glove box. The noise only happens right when they come on/off. Is this normal?

Thanks
JC

Don't know if any other years do that, but mine does the same. Drove me nuts for the first few months. I actually pulled my glove box out to locate the noise. Learned that you have a little compartment back there also. Didn't know what it was until I read about it on NASIOC. I'll let you figure out what it is on your own or thru searching on here.

a relay is basically an electromagnet that activates a switch by sending power through a coil, which joins another circuit. the clicking you're hearing is the circuit being joined by the electromagnetic force, which is made to be pretty strong so it makes a "CLICK" noise when the electromagnet is charged.

it will happen in any car that uses normal bosch type relays (basically every car) but depending on where that relay is located it will be more or less audible. in our cars, it's pretty noticable.

What's this little secret compartment behind the glove box? I searched "behind the glove compartment" and such and only got links to DRL removal. I'm curious. I like hiding spots in my car

he is probaqbly talking about the cabin air filter slot. Its most likely empty if you don't know that its there. You can buy the subaru filter media for $30 or make your own for $5. Do a search on how to do that.
