I just got a call from a guy that I sold my 6 disc changer to saying he can't get the thing to work. I figured I should post on here and try to get some answers before I try to answer questions I am unsure of.
Here's what I sold him: 2003 WRX 6 disc changer. It worked perfect when I took it out of my car-- that was the first mod I did to the car was change the radio in it. as a matter of fact, I had one waiting on me at the house so I changed it right when I got home from the dealership. I'm not saying it couldn't gotten damaged in shipping transit, but I really want to try to rule other possibilities first. Any help or feedback would greatly be appreciated! Anyways, my question is this: Can this radio work in a 99 RS or do modifications need to be made, and if so what? I don't know anything about the RS electrical system, but I am figuring it's quite similar. Any expert knowledge would be wonderful! Thanks in advance! Greg

Sorry to hear
I know its not exactly the same but, I swapped a '03 6 disc into my MY00 RS. Everything went fine. I am definately not an expert but more info would help. What dosen't work? Is there no power to it at all? Does it power up and make noise or is it completely dead? If he has the stock (old) stereo around maybe he could see if that powers up? Also you may want to post in the car audio, video, and security forum. More experts there hth also there are pinout diagrams on here iirc |

He says it powers up and lights up, but he cannot get any radio stations to come on. Also, he says the cd loader does nothing but click. I'm really baffled by this.
Thanks, Greg |

Well, cinergi, it's me, the guy you sold it to. I'm wondering why you haven't called me. I'm really quite a reasonable guy.
FYI: my car is an '02 impreza RS. If there's an incompatability, I'd be interested to know what should be changed. The CD changer mechanism seems to get power. I can hear a mechanism working (no strange sounds or anything). The background green lighting comes on on all the paneling. However, none of the LCD panel lights up or shows LEDs, and the unit seems to trip a self-resetting breaker every time I push the circular "power/volume" button. The button also seems stiff to push (but not to turn). Maybe someone with experience can say if that's normal. At any rate, I swapped my stock unit with the in-dash 6-disk and my stock unit powers up and works fine. The other doesn't even let the radio work... ??? Maybe it's an incompatability... or it might have been damaged in shipping. Greg, I would like you to give me a call. I left you a message on your cell phone. Sorry to hear about the problems guys
It may be a problem with the unit, especially if it gets power and the stocker works fine. Again tho, I am not an expert. It seems very common to swap these stereos up and down the subaru line, it should swap right into a 02 RS?? Check in the stereo forum. There are some very knowledgable stereo people in there. Hope everything works out for you guys! ![]() See if the dimmer switch works on the stereo LCD. Turn on the headlights and see if the illumination works...just a thought to check if similar wiring...? |

probably damaged in shipping.
swapping into an 02 RS SHOULD be a direct fit but I dont know for sure. was the shipment insured? what did the box look like when it got there? |

it is a direct fit, this problem has to do with the player itself.
i have my 02 wrx one in my 98, and my 98s cd player is in the wrx... everything works in both cars |
