Default Sleepers and definitely-not-sleepers

What's more appealing to you - taking a sleeper to track day or Englishtown, ATCO, etc. that will completely surprise the competition, or driving a fully tricked out car at Willow Springs or Road America that has visual bark to match its performance bite?

(Feel free to switch locations as appropriate, and remember to always take it to the track. )

A car that you can just look at it and think "that's fast". Like the conebasher WRX.

I think it has to do with personality

I would much rather leave somebody speechless with a car that looked like a soccer mom's grocery getter.

I've seen quite a few fairly slow pieces of domestic iron that were tubbed.

9-10.5" slicks can get you far... these mid-life crisis old farts need to spend more money on suspension and motor and less on putting 14" slicks on some 13 second car.

My Forester is a blast at E-Town. Its the older body style and shocks most everyone. My all time favorite race there was when I went up against a 2001 Lightning and stayed ahead of him all the way...the look on his face is one which makes a sleeper worth it

Sleeper is the way to go. I personally think if a car looks good stock, then it looks good. If it's ugly, you can't fix that. Body kits are just tacky. Visual mods are not my thing. If i had a fast car, i would go out of my way to make it look un-fast(318i emblem on an //M3). Its really annoying when people try to race you

I've been thinking how cool it'd be to buy an EVO and swap the regular Lancer front end and wing on lately...

Sleeper is good. I have resisted the urge to do any exterior changes to my car, focusing on go fast bits instead. The hardest though is rims. I have '00 2.5RS 16x7 rims on the car, and that is plenty for what it can do. But every time a set of 17" P1s or P7s comes up for sale, I get sorely tempted. There's just no reason for them in my case. I've dusted plenty of cut-spring specials riding on big ol' rims because my car so out-suspended the other.

I like sleepers better. My dream sleeper is to bore out a Geo Metro/Suzuki Sprint and add turbo and bigger injectors. Can you imagine kicking some Ricer's butt in a Geo? The look on they're face would be priceless. PLus the Geo is so light..It wouldn't take too much to get it to haul A$$. I read an article in Sport Compact about a 280 HP geo this guy had made, but his looked like a race-car. Mine would look bone stock outside. I'd even kick a dent in the door to make it look like a beater.

Kinda reminds me of the Hyundai Tiberon with two engines, one hidden in the back seat that pushes the rear wheels and runs on alcohol (i think). It was in sports compact car several months ago, it was amazing.

right now my dream sleeper is a 2.5t from a Forester in my BD

I'd settle for an ej20t though I suppose.

I don't see anything wrong with some bling to the bang. If a car that can run under 11's has some taste as far as appearances goes, why not. It's more of a complete package if that is what the owner is going for.
