Unhappy Bent my Antenna... any aftermarket options?

The antenna mast on my BD Legacy was recently bent, right at the base. I bent it back straight, but it won't go down all the way now when it collapses. Hopefully it's just the mast and not the entire motor assembly.

I know I can replace just the mast, but it's a pretty pricey part. It lists for roughly $90 CDN at the dealer, but I have my hookups

Just curious if anybody else has replaced their antenna with an aftermarket one. Pictures or any links to websites would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Chris.

Been there, my wife did that.

Replacing the mast is literally a breeze. It comes with a self-feeding tail, sort of like a rip cord for a Bey Blade or an SST (depending how old you are you'll know what I mean). Insert the tip and the motor just grabs the whole antennae and sucks it in.

Bite the bullet and pay the $90, you'll save yourself spending extra time and effort on something that just isn't worth it.

This no-nonsense opinion of the day brought to you by:

Good luck!

I ordered the stocker. I just thought there might be a "cooler" aftermarket antenna or something since I was spending the money anyways But the options that I found on the net (i.e. Zendar), requires too much work (i.e. drilling).

I enjoy not having one

There are small "euro style" antennas out there. But since you already ordered the stocker, ignore me!

Default 4" Zendar and

Terk XM antenna!!!

The 4" Adjustable Powered Zendar is located on the roof in the back in the center!!!
The Terk XM radio antenna is on the trunk in the center painted to match the car!!!

...and on the XM receiver, it has an auxilary input for rca connection can we say laptop, portable DVD, mini disc, gameboy, etc. hook up!!!

Oh and not to mention...playing on over a thousand watts of sound!!! muhahahahaha muhahahahaha!!!

Yes...I know...I know...I am CRAZY

CRAZY KEN that is!!!

P.S. I bent my antenna playing in the snow 2 years ago...Word of advice...don't play in snow near trees with branches that hang down....oh, and if you do make sure you listen to a CD, so the radio antenna will retract down and not get busted by any branches that may get in its way!

hhehehehehhahahaha...one moment I am having fun doing donuts and sliding jamming to the radio...next I not only see snow but hear snow too! doh!!!

For a good replacement antenna at a lot less than the dealer, contact www.thunderbolttraders.com . They have lots of good stuff including antennas. I buy product for my restorations from them.

What you could do is put an on/off switch inline with the power that runs to the antenna as some aftermarket radios do not cut power to the antenna when you are playing CD. I have found that when in the city, I am getting great FM reception with the antenna retracted.

I just may have to post some pics of my switch and relocated 12v plug.

Hopefully this gets some response, considering it's an oldie.

Haven't been able to find an aftermarket ala VW's stock antenna that will fit in the same location as the Suby stocker. So I ordered a rod and nut assembly from Subaruparts.com.

I tried to replace it this past weekend and have a question...

The existing antenna is in the 'up' position rendering it impossible to remove it. Do I shove it back in, or can I just cut the antenna at the base and remove the rest?

Otherwise it is an easy repair.

Peace,
Oquipah
