Default bitter-sweet day for me (kinda long)

First the sweet.

I got my up pipe and down pipe installed today, pde up and turboxs down. Went down to millenium autosports in portsmouth, Great bunch of people. It took them about 4-5 hours total to get everything finished. I decided to wait on the turbo install until I get my injectors, but the up and down pipes make a huge difference in power. While I was there I was watching them install tint on another persons car. When it was done it looked so good I decided to get mine done too! I got 35% all around, which is not exactly legal in va but I dont care. It looks better like this than the 50 in front, 35 in back that is so called va legal. Im bettin that cops have better things to do than pull me over for tint. So this was a perfect day right???

WRONG

I am coming home, listening to my new turbo whistle and louder grumble from my scoobysport exhaust, grinning from ear to ear. I get home, and I love the sound so much, I decide to make up a reason to go back out. I decided to get gas, even thought I still had almost half a tank. I fill up and then make a run down to warwick blvd and then flip a bitch to come back up denbigh. Im just cruising, scaring the **** outta people with their windows down with my turbo noises, when all of a sudden, the suv that is up ahead comes to a sreeching halt. Some dumbass up ahead decided to run right across the main road, in the dark and the rain, on warwick blvd, still in rushhour-like traffic. I try with all my might and pray to god my little stock brakes will slow me down in time. Well they didnt. I didnt hit him very hard, but I still dented up my bumper and sti grill pretty good. The suv had almost no damage at all. Mind you I was going the speed limit and had quite a bit of room between us, but with the roads wet and him coming to a sudden stop it didnt matter. OH well...

Ill post pics tomorrow, and I will try to get a vid of the exhaust

Dude that sucks balls. That's one of the reasons I hate drivin in the commonwealth. The over abundance of stupid people. Perhaps it won't look so bad in the mornin, eh? Probably buff right out, j/k. Anyways, see ya at Perry.

Way to go Nik with the "It'll buff right out" crack! For some reason whenever anyone says that, I have to laugh.

I am glad you got some of your new toys put on. I am also glad they guys at Millenium hooked you up. Yours is the first review of their service posted here. If we can all be nib noses, how much was the install fee for the DP and UP?

I am REAL sorry about your accident! PM Dave (VipersEatLotus), our local crash test dummy, for advice on the best body shops up there. Another suck factor is if you do this through insurance they will probably only cough up a stock grill, not the STi one you have.

Hope it gets fixed soon and sorry to hear about your luck!

Sorry about your car. While driving from Columbia to Ellicott City yesterday I had to avoid 3 different people who were driving with their head up their ass. Not sure why the people around this region drive so damn bad.

when you go to get a estimate from insurance and they put down the subaru part number for the regular grill inform them that you want a different grill from subaru and give them the part number. Usually usually they won't flinch and just write down the other part number. It's after market parts insurance companies flip over.. as long as it's a manufacture part they probably won't yipe.. Best of luck though.

How pleased are you with the tint? i'd like to get mine done as well don't know how dark though.. Well i'll see ya around.

I believe the best bodyshop in the MD/DC/VA area is Wagonworks (I think that's the name).

It's where all of the BMW guy's go to get fenders rolled and everything put together.

There is a place outside of Rockville Maryland called Kurz Automotive. Great guys. They did this:

Full Reiger face lift on that bad boy. The directions were in German and the rear needed custom brackets made. They did a hell of a job.

Their number is 301-990-6314.

Well I got good and bad news. Good news is that I removed the sti grill and it appears as though my bumpers paint is just scratched. I dont see any dents on the bumper itself. So the only real bad damage is on the grill itself. Bad news is, I cant hide the paint damage with my old stock grill, and nobody has a silver sti grill in stock!

Ron, install fee was 300 because it took alot longer than they thought to get the uppipe on. A couple of my bolts where so rusted that they just broke off, further prolonging the install. The tint job was 140. Anyone lookin to get springs installed should go there, they only charge 140 to put them on. Thats my next mod.

Rob, my tint looks perfect imho.. I would not want it any darker than it is. I was going to post pictures but instead worked out in the yard all day. I'll try to get pictures tomorrow. Its 35% all the way around, Im also thinking of getting a small strip of tint put on my windshield.

Everybody else, thanks for your kind words, I hope to see everybody at the meet.

D00d!

$300 for up and downpipe is a freaking deal!!! $140 ain't too shabby for tint either. I think I paid $165 for my 50% metallic tint all the way around from T&T Tinting. They did the back glass in one piece and did a wire edge on all windows. The gap between the edge of the glass and the tint is 1mm!

I guess that is good news on your bumper. So it will buff right out as they say??? Until you get a new STi grill, I guess you will become a member of Team Gutter Guard!

Oh and one admonishment.....posting pics on NASIOC takes presendence to working in the yard! Which reminds me where I'll be tomorrow, but I did post like 50 movies today, so that's OK.

Derek -

I'll have a few minutes tomorrow, I'll call the 2 dealers near my house back home and have them check inventory.

If they do, I'll give you their number. A phone call and you'll have it shipped to your door or local dealer.

You have a part number on the grill?

Bigger brakes would not have made a difference. Tires would have.

All I know is don't go to Farrish Fairfax Autobody, they have been screwing me over on my paint job. The first time it was painted it was good. Then some jackass in a truck backed into my rear panel and ever since then the paint has never been good again, not to mention bubbles starting to appear in the paint and mis-coloration between doors. Its going back tomorrow to get fixed AGAIN! and hopefully for the last time. They also said they wouldn't give me a rental car, I was like ***, you did last time. So I got my insurance company involved again and hopefully they will work it out. I just don't think they will ever do a good job again. Anyone know where you can get a really good paint job painting about 75% of the sides of the car (bumper, right front panel and door, hood, rooof, and trunk are all fine) for a decent price? I just want the car looking like its new again, its not that hard if its done right.

Subydude, 260 bucks if you want a new one. A normal subaru dealer wont have any of them since its off a 02/03 sti not a 04.

damn man, sorry to hear about it. from my experience here are the local shops i have been to and what they do well.

1. one stop auto on rt 17. i used to be a detailer there and the painter was amazing and the body work was ok. i don't know if mike still works there though. their body work is pretty good although they did have some complications getting my old intrepids hood on propper. argued with them for a while trying to convince them that the hood wasn't supposed to overhang 3 inches...but they rolled it and it looked great!

2 is coxtons on rt 17 as well. body work is great and they have great customer service. my hoodscoop is still stock color and now compared to the rest of my car has a goldish hue. it doesn't bother me enough to get it done though since i want to get an sti hoodscoop. i will just have them paint it and then all will be cool with me

3. casey collision center rt 17. sucks ass don't ever go to them. they are morons! i was highly pissed with them and their work. i had them get rid of at least 3 runs in the paint and made them paint it over a couple times before i would even take it off the lot.

hope that helps you instead of naming a bunch of places all over VA. take it to all three to get estimates. coxtons will most likel y cost the most. but if you are going to have insurance take care of it do it.

good luck with it.

Rob: get 35 all the way around, that is what i have and it looks nice i think.
