Post Prodrive Impreza pics from Sno*Drift

While we were waiting to get teched, Daphne took a few pics of the Prodrive Imprezas being driven by Karl Scheible and Mark Lovell.

How did the event go for us? Don't ask...

interesting that their running Dunlop tyres not Pirelli.

Any idea what model Dunlops those are? Because they look like "wicked" snow tyres..

rsquire, I didn't get the tire model, but they both ran Blizzaks in the event.

ProgSi, yes, but it wasn't AWD--it was a stock New Beetle.

Thumbs up

BOTH Prodrive cars ran on Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 tires. The Dunlops where gravel tires.

Jon - I was working start control for stages 1, 8 & 11...so we crossed paths...
Did you DNF due to the shunt with the MGB???

I'll have some S*D pics up soon...

I DNFed when my alternater died at the start of SS10. I was already well out of the running after spending 8+ minutes in a snow bank a few turns from the end of SS4.

The dent happened about 7 miles into SS2. I was catching Carlos Lopez's Talon and he wouldn't let me get by. I followed him into an icy 90 left and we both slid through it and stopped. He then reversed into me--apparently didn't look back at all. To make it even worse, he took off ahead of me, and it was another 5 miles before I had a spot to pass him. He cost me over a minute on that stage.

All in all, a pretty lousy event for us.

I would have said Hi, but I can get a bit pre-occupied during a rally...

Go there, find your local region. Then start by getting in on some TSD (time/speed/distance) road rallies. After that, you'll know where to go.

If you're really interested in it, and want some more info, I know a couple of good places and one book in particular that you might find helpful.

PM me and I'll let you know.

Arrow

All the "buttons" are for various controls: spot lights, kill switch, fuel pump, etc. etc. etc. Basically, all the necessities that a driver would need in the car.

Why are they using an instrument cluster designed for an auto tranny? Note the vertical PRD321 indicator just left of the tach.

ProgSi, Scheible did indeed run the new Beetle a couple seasons ago, but it was not AWD. I believe he ran in Production Class (or was it Production GT?) where very little modifications are allowed to the vehicles.

I thought Scheible was running an EVO this year? Guess he had to step up the Subaru after I beat his little bug at a rally-x last year in my street tired RS. Don't believe me? PDF results I'm Pete Winkelman in S04, He's Karl Scheibel in RU2. Mind you these are not PAX times like auto-x!

Getagrip, the cars are STi Type R's so I'm assuming that that is the indicator for the adjustable center diff( shows where you have the power bias adjusted to).

Great Pics. Was that Mark Lovell's first time in the States? Fantastic finish For Subaru.

I wonder how much SOA is involved, if at all?

Interesting to see they have UK license plates on them.

Perhaps they have got them over on the 1 year Visa car scheme thing?

had a pretty enjoyable time up there.

I didn't get to swing by and say hey jon...

The best spectator area was SS6. Watching people TRY to come down that icy hill and THEN turn right was a real joy.

IIRC, Jon did a good job there....

Jay--a lot of the drivers were grumbling that the cars weren't legally registered. The rules are very different for the top 10 cars than for the rest of us. For example, tech started 90 min late because the Prodrive and Hyundai teams weren't finished using the garage.

Steve--you mean I did one corner well? Cool! Those 90s were like a skating rink--I just tried to stay near the edges where there was a little snow.

Talking

It was indeed Mark Lovell's first time rallying in the USA. When I talked with him in Wales, he was somewhat apprehensive about driving BLIND rallies, without STUDS, and at NIGHT. In Europe, the rallies are pace noted, big-ass studs allowed on ice/snow, and they rarely race at night.

He had great respect for the American rallyists and we were in awe of his driving (especially watching him circle the small practice area that we had).

I believe that he was probably driving a basic Group N car (probably with the 40mm restrictor instead of 34mm)even though they ran it in OPEN class.

Great job Mark and Karl!

Can't wait to see you on the West Coast! I was extremely pleased with how my USX handled and accelerated out of the corners even compared to the Group N car with active center diff. But those cars kill mine past 80 mph!

We are still deciding whether to make the long trek to Cherokee Trails in mid-March or whether to go for the ClubRally Championship that will be held March 3-4 at Doo Wops in Olympia, WA (about 2200 miles closer!)

Since I did not start the year in Seed 1, I guess I am still eligible for the ClubRally Challenge (got the letter from SCCA at least...)

Pe www.get-primitive.com

ps I have a YELLOW WRX on the first allocation of cars coming! Look out PGT!
