Talking 1987 RX-7 questions...

Who knows stuff about a 1987 RX-7?

Here are the symptons...
Runs but rather poorly-acts like exhaust is plugged up. Front suspension excessively toed in.Clunk from rear suspension when differential is loaded.

Any idea's?

Supposedly there is a new engine too.

check the following:

1. make sure cat isn't clogged.
2. make sure fuel injectors are still good
3. make sure there isn't any vacuum hoses loose.

Bill did you get a TurboII? or N/A?

The RX-7 is a Turbo. (How much HP is that?) It is up for sale, pretty cheap, just wondering if it is possible to fix cheaply?

rotary turbo cars tends to clog up cats more than piston engines. as for performance:

182hp @ 6500
183lb @ 3500

curb weight 2910

0-60---> 6.6 secs (not bad @ all)
1/4----> 15.2 secs

Cool

go cat-less, and run a racing beat exhaust. friend has one, they claim like a 50-hp increase!

the turbo II is really fast, but it's a RX7, a mechnic's car. always has problems. heard the electircal stuff on it is pretty bad too.

Ah, the electrical stuff is the fun stuff. Don't know why I like it but I do. Seriously considering it though as just a race car. More than likely it won't be street legal.

Question

bluesaint,

The only other problem might be the rear diff. Sounds like if you really floor it, it will start doing some wierd stuff.

Think it might need a new diff? Junkyard?

bill when was the last time the differential fluids were changed? put some redline shockproof oil in there and most likely your problems are gone. btw, 1st and 2nd gen RX7's are actually quite reliable.

Thumbs up

bluesaint,

you are making this car sound more and more appealing to me. damn you, now I might really have to get it.

oh sounded like the guy bought and was going to work on it but never did, so it probably just had some old fluids in it. This thing sounds like a good deal now.

thanks a ton,
Bill

Well I figured out the pricing for the car and to get it up here, because right now it is in LA going for about 800 bucks. The cost to get it up here though, about 350 bucks, gas and Uhaul it. UGH, not worth it, plus smog, cat, and other stuff. Damn, it is a pretty good deal too from the sounds of it. This damn Subaru taking up all my money and time...

I will have an RX7 someday, it's true, it's true...

Thinking about it. But looking for a good deal. I don't mind waiting, I have plenty of stuff to do to the Sube right now anyway.

type RZ you mean. engine wise no difference from US. the RZ only looks a little better and has BBS rims, seats and coilovers stock.
engine wise its the same as the US as i said. the only reason Japan rx7's run @ 280hp is because they run really advanced timing and requires 100octane just for day to day driving. we got toned down to 255 cuz the timings are retarded and rated for 92 octane gas.
