Exclamation New Motor Trend Issue

Just got it today (March issue )

Its got a little blurb on the WRX... And its incorrect!!! $25,000... "Limited availiblility will drive the price up at first, but in-the-know enthusiasts will plunk down the premium." I DONT SEE ANYONE PLUNKIN NOTHIN!!! Grrr...

Theres also a super-long article on the new Z-car. They said its gonna look pretty much like the one that was at the show minus the fender arches and minus the wheels and a smaller grill. (They saw an actually mock-up of the production car)

They finalize some stats on the RS-X. 160hp base (5-speed only), 200hp for the Type-S and 215hp for the Type-R. And yes, it does have the civic strut set up

A nice article about the 330xi, and theres a 1 page article about the new A4 (220hp with a CVT engine! NICE!) and a small blurb about the new Passat as well (look very simular, the A4 and the Passat)

Nice article with the Corvette coupe vs. Jaguar XKR Silverstone vs. Merc CLK55 vs. BMW M5... Guess who won?

Oh, and they called the Nissan Spec-V the "Spec-B" LOL! (They called the Protege MP3 the MP5 in the last issue... same collumn, probably the same editor)

I think everyone will be surprised at just how many of the WRX's will be sold to pre-order's. They will be hard to find.

So this is confirmed for the U.S this year??
We will be getting a Type R version in the U.S this year?

New Motor Trend Issue
Well, it is Motor Trend after all. You know, the magazine that sells its "Car of the Year" award to the highest bidder?

Yeah, that's about right.

Ahyes, the issue with the editorial: "SUV haters are wrong to complain about the Excursion. The average SUV only weighs 1.7 times a car, not 2 or 3 times, so it's NOT THAT BAD."

If I were you I'd cancel my subscription based on that shoddy reasoning.

Anyhoo ... the RS-X has strut suspension eh? Do I smell a wannabe rally contender to my Impreza?

How did this turn into an Anit-SUV thread???

Oh well...

Anyway, Motor Trend doesnt sell out like you say... It seems like they do, but they give the best detailed looks at cars even though they try to to be biased (IE rag on a company, which if you want that, get Consumers Reports!) but they have the coolest car comparisons (High speed shoot out anyone? ) and very up to date info. And for some reason, they get the best times out of their cars, which makes them good for checking Stock performance data.

But, their new "upcoming stuff" editor sucks... cant keep the info straight... Oh well! (They also get alot more exclusive stuff than anyone else)

Well if you want to know WHY the Excusrsion is so heavy look at the Stupid ass rules the Government makes for the car makers. Ford had to ADD several hundred to a thousand pounds to make the thing CHEAPER to build. Thats right they needed to make it heavy enough to avoid the light truck regulations which add alot of time and expense just to the development, and the certification of the car. I firmly belive that the Excursion meats all the light truck rules, it still cost millions to prove that to the DOT, and EPA. Never mind the cost of having it factored into the light truck CAFE.

You want to piss and moan about **** look at Chrysler. The PT cruiser is classified as a truck, and barely meets ANY of those regualtions. The Darango is not that much larger than an explorer, yet has the Fuel economy that barely betters a 5.4L Excursion.

I hate SUV-haters as they for the most part are clueless sheep, who bitch and moan about things that in fact are not true, or not a real problem. I do think that some people need to take a better look at what they need befor shopping.

BTW a Full size van still Dwarfs an Excursion, as does a 1 Ton 4dr pickup with a long bed.

SUVs give the impression of safety (due to their size), yet are not all that safe. They accelerate slower, they take longer to slow down, they turn more poorly (and with higher centers of gravity) and cost more to repair when in an accident than does my RS. And they don't necessarily carry more stuff either, as the BMW X5 has a smaller cargo capacity than the 5-series Touring.

I agree there is an anti-SUV bandwagon. But there also seems to be some sort of status gained (in someone's eyes) by having a bigger SUV than the next person. 90% of SUV owners would be better off with a mini van.
