This is very good to know. With this info, anyone could strong-arm their local dealer into matching the price.

Awesome job guys. The internet freakin' rules!!!

Just walk into any dealership armed with these names and numbers, start the negotiations with, "I can get a WRX for $400 over invoice."

hehehe, I love it.

For all you Midwest folks, call Parkway Subaru in Peoria, IL. I talked to their internet sales manager, a guy named Bob Roles, and he agreed to sell me a new WRX at $800 over invoice. And this was over the phone.

Granted, it's not $400 over, but he did seem sincere that he was more interested in moving a higher number of units at smaller mark-up so he'd look good to SOA. When I talked to him a little less than a month ago, they only had one order.

Sadly, I'm passing, because I don't want to swallow that steep of a payment. Gonna save my pennies a while and see what kind of STi shows up...

Do you have a phone number or email address for the dealer in Peoria? That's only like a 3 hour drive from here...2 hours coming back in the WRX

Question

Can they get ahold of CA certified cars? I know the smog requirements are usually stricter on CA cars. Usually there are two variants, CA emissions and 49 state emissions. Sucks to live here sometimes.

Thumbs up

I just want to say that I bought my RS at Van Bortel and had a great experience. Salesmen didn't pressure me and did more than I asked for. If anyone is in the area and wants to get a new Subaru...definately go there! If I was buying a new WRX I would make the five hour trek there no problem.

Nobody knows what invoice price will be, but I'm assuming it's gonna be about $22000.

Isn't the WRX 50-state legal? LEV? I got that impression from all my reading, that there is only one version that meets every state's requirements. Anyway, aren't the emission standards in New England just as strict?

Let me ask you all something. What is wrong with making a little profit? That is how all these dealers stay in business so you can get your Subarus serviced and upgraded with all those cool options. You can go into any dealer and demand a low price versus invoice. It is no big deal what kind of price you get for the car, as long as you feel like you get the best deal.

Stop posting how much you buy the car for because you are only pissing the other people off who pay more. This car is going to be one of the best newcomers in the states this year...just enjoy the car and brag about it after you get it.

Thank you for listening.

Question

Huh?

Edit: Oh, I see from your other post that you're a Subaru salesman. It's understandable that you're trying to get us to pay as much as possible so that you can have food on your table & keep the dealership afloat. But Van Bortel has had this business practice of charging a fair price without bargaining for years, and they manage to do just fine.

Plus, I would pay even more not to deal with traditional salesman tactics & guilt trips.

I responded to Ridinlow personally but wanted to put my 2 cents in again. I think it great that he got the car for $400 over invoice. I am just surprised the dealer would be giving the cars away when they are in such great demand before they even get here. I just hope the dealer can get their orders filled for the customers sake.

If they are planning on shipping 10,000 cars per year - this 2 car/dlr stuff seems suspect. Placing an order without a contract is like bending over the table and pulling out the vaseline. Dealers will play to your emotions to get to your wallet. If you accept this fact and still want to be the first on the block with a WRX - so be it, God bless, and more power to you.

Please remember that selling cars is a business. Part of that business is to get as much money from you as possible.

same here, if this chick tries to add nething on, I will just walk out. I can wait if I have to. But from what I understand about this place they sell all their cars at a % over invoice. I dont think they sell nething at msrp. Having said that, if we get more ppl to order cars from there, and they decide to screw us, they are making a BIG mistake, they would be losing lots of business. I informed the dealer that we are a club of 3,300 subaru enthusiast, and I think she understands that if they are to back out on this deal that they will be losing a good amount of business.
Neways,I am the first yellow sedan order there Cant wait for that to come in.

Yeah, but as stated above, we/anybody should definitely sign the papers for $400 over invoice well in advance of delivery just in case.

Diana @ Van Bortel said they should have no trouble getting cars (for me anyway, as I'm one of the first in line for a wagon ).

Subaru has less than 600 dealers in the US.

Let's do the math:

10,000 cars spread over 600 dealers works to just under 17 cars per dealers - now some dealers will get a lot more and somoe dealers will get a lot less, but this 1 or 2 stuff is just not accurate (and there are less than 600 dealers so the average will actually be higher). I would bet that initially supply will be limited as the pipeline gets filled with cars, and each dealer may have only 1 or 2 WRX's for the first few weeks. Also, I'm sure there won't be very many yellow cars made, but otherwise they will be available.

I heard from someone here that there is going to be like 450 yellow sedans made. That means...1 for me, and none for u! ehehe I was the first to put the order in for a yellow sedan at that dealership, so I hope to get it.
Also, being that this place says its the biggest dealer in the country, I assume they they should have no problem getting the car.
We will see I guess.
