Hey,

Just a thought...

Be careful when ordering a car from out of state. Depending on your State's and NY State's tax laws you might be charged DOUBLE sales tax (IE: state sales tax in NY and then sales tax again when you register the car in your own state.)

It might add a some unexpected $$ to your $400 over invoice figure.

Does anyone know if this place will change NY State Sales Tax? (Does NY even have Sales Tax?)

Yes we do have state tax, we have a tax just for being alive, and then a tax for making them tax us
I dont know about that out of state thingie as I have never bought nething similar to compare.
The invoice price is to be announced. She (and all dealers) are not going to know until march some time. That kinda sux, but she is solid on that $400 over invoice thing, and I expect it to be a good amount cheaper than msrp.
I am gonna give her a call to see if I can place my down payment on CC, that would kick ass

So dealer guys??? What are the invoice prices going to be around??

Also what deals do you get as a salesmen?? Can you buy a WRX at invoice since you work at the dealership. You should drive what you sell I always say. I hate this so called hard core Subaru salesmen that seem so into Subaru's, yet non of them actually drive one. What's up with that? I don't think anyone in the omaha area at the 3 different dealerships that have salesmen that sell Subarus that acutally drive them!

What's up with that. I'm going to just have to put myself on the sales floor, keep the WRX out of the wrong hands and make sure it goes to true Subaru fanatics... not some Firebird, Camaro guys who comes in sporting a Chevy T-shirt with cig rolled in one sleave wanting to get a WRX cause he's getting smoked at every stoplight by them.

sorry to rant... *whew* I feel better now.

People who live in the mid-South (and for whom a 700 mi. trip to NY is not feasible) may want to try Tony Moore Subaru in Decatur, Alabama. 1 (800) 844-1984. They gave me a *great* price, and the sales staff was very responsive.

So much for my buying skills. I went into my local dealer here in montana armed with this info on $400 over invoice but no go.. They pulled the old "not for a yellow one" BS. Oh well I put $100 down and signed a puchase agreement for a Yellow 02 WRX sedan, auto, with rear spoiler. I agreed to msrp $24,995 + $525 destination + $395 spoiler + $49 Fee (for paperwork??) + $4 Fee (for ink?) Grand Total $25,968 Signed Sealed Delivered Oh well I'm Guaranteed Yellow at this dealer and they say FEB 1st There will be an advertising blitz and Yellow will be hard to get Promised. They also said $650 per rim no tire for the 17" is the rumor they hear so I passed on them.

Oh, & I was wrong about the credit card deposit thing because I forgot that I had paid $2500 of my RS using my credit card. $2500 is the most you can put on a CC at Van Bortel.

Ridinlow - they'll probably try to screw you for $1000 on the trade in. Make sure you get a fair price.

RidinLow -

Kelly Blue Book Retail Value on a 2000 RS Sedan w/12,000 miles is $18,985.

Trade in you should expect to get about $15,655.

You should sell it privately if they don't give you a fair price. You could sell it for $16,000 easy.

Hi,

Thanks for the concern, I will sell privately if I find somebody. However, the consensus is that Kelley BB is a completely inflated value & NADA is what to go by. For example... my MY00 RS is listed as having a resale value of $19,200... who would ever buy that when you can get a new MY01 RS for less??? Unfortunately, NADA has no listing for a 2000 2.5RS, but according to the dealer, that's also what they go by.

Plus, I save about $1000 in taxes if I trade in & there's no hassle. If I do sell for $17000ish privately, it would only be about $15-$20 more per month... not sure if that's big enough a deal for me to go around demoing my car to everybody.

Van Bortel is a great dealership. I bought a new 2001 RS Coupe from them last week. Like everything they sell, it was $400 over invoice. They weren't pushy and they were upfront and honest with me. When it's time for me to get another car I'll be going there again. Last week they had already pre-sold 13 WRXs. If it's possible for you to buy your WRX from them I'd suggest you do it. Atleast you know you won't be getting ripped off.

I also bought the car there and registered it in Maine. You only have to pay the sales tax in the state you register the car in.

You should only have to pay the sales tax in the state in which you register the car, at least that's how it works in Illinois.

Same here. If someone from NY buys a car in NJ, they pay NY registration fees and taxes.

In my experience, yes you can put a down payment on a credit card. It could depend on the dealer or maybe how the person's credit is.

I just agreed to get a WRX Wagon from Tony Moore Subaru in Decatur AL for invoice + $800 + $169.50 docking fee.

He needed a $500 deposit to process the order with SOA and is sending a purchase agreement for me to sign stating the invoice + $800 as the sale price.

(The one here in Nashville sucks so bad - wouldn't let me test a 2.5 RS because it's like a new z06 corvette and they don't let people test them either...only way to test it is to say you WILL buy it... is that messed up or what?!)

The $400 over and $800 over are legitimate. I've personally talked to Bob Roles at Parkway in Peoria and had an email chat with the Van Bortel folks.

At this point I think I'm staying with my local dealer (Ramsey in Des Moines) at MSRP, since I have a trade that will complicate matters. The internet sales manager is being pretty good to work with.
