Lease question...

I'm currently leasing a 2000 Legacy GT sedan. I desperately want to get out of this lease in time for the WRX. It's a four year lease(I know I know, don't ask) and I'm 1 year and 4 months into it. How can I get out of it? My dealership told me if I paid them about five grand I ould get out of it.
My current payoff is $19,904. Any help would be appreciated.

What does your lease say about early termination? Get it out and look at it. I can remember the SOA lease being fairly bad compared to the deal I got. You may want to hop on over to KBB.com and see where your car would be. If the retail value is higher than your payoff and you think you can sell yours, then buy it out and do it. Again, check your lease terms on early buyout as MOST leases do not allow it.

Hey Brahmzy,

You are not in a very good situation right now. You are what they call "upside down" in your lease. You are not dead, though. There are a few ways you can get out of it. One is you can find someone to assume the lease with the same payments, terms, etc. You WILL have to remain on the lease for responsibility purposes until the end.

The second thing you can do is sell the car on your own, taking the highest offer you get for it and then making the payoff. All payoffs from the leasing company include lease termination fees. You will most likely not get the whole amount, but it is better than trying to trade it in and rolling the inequity into the new lease!!

Do yourself a favor and go to the local dealer and ask what they would do. They are there to help you and not "screw" you like everyone thinks.
