Default Deep sea fishing in monterey?

My dads birthday is next weekend, and I'd like to take him out deep sea fishing in monterey. The only problem with this is that Ive never gone fishing in my life, dont even know what we'd be fishing for, or where to go to get on a boat. Does anyone have any expereince with this or recommendations for a boat? Also, I vaguely remember someone telling me that you have to be there at 4 am, and also is fishing season still open? I think Ideally we'd like to catch some tuna or some yellowtail(my brother is a sushi chef)
thanks in advance.

i dunno about the exact details, but, you may want to check into some sort of service? like a guy who owns a boat who takes people out to fish or scuba dive or whatever

Go to www.usafishing.com and click on the Monterey tab. The have some numbers of boats you can contact. Salmon fishing is pretty much kaput. I think they are still getting albacore but those trips run $150+ if I remember correctly. The Wild Wave is a good boat if you are going for albies.

The only other thing is rockfishing. That's probably the best bet. But book soon. DFG is talking about shutting down rockfishing in the near future.

I live in Monterey. My dad used to take me on these kind of trips when I was younger. Try:

Monterey Sportfishing and Wale watching- 831 372-2203
Adventure Sport fishing- 831 372-1001
Sam's Fishing Fleet- 831 372 0577

Those are the good ones with the nicest boats. I think you can rent poles from them also. Have fun

I'm not sure where your coming from. But if your coming from cupertino, you might try the charter boats sailing from Santa Cruz.

It's closer than Montery...
