Hi People,
As you will see from my profile, I like to drive and I want to drive PR. (unfortunately in a rental car). We (my wife and I) will be visiting your beautiful island over Thanksgiving. I can hire a car and stay wherever we want if we decide about this soon. Do you have any advice about motels or places to go? We are pretty experienced travelers and could wing it on accommodation if necessary. We are not your usual tourist types. We would like to avoid all the tourist traps and are very keen to explore topography as we hope to be doing your National Park. We love people and are very social - so any fun places for us to meet the locals would be great. Looking forward to this so much! PP

Highly recommend you drive around and enjoy the scenery, my grandfather lives there so I can't recommend a place to stay but every Sunday make sure you go to Guavate, it's a festival on top of a mountain. Probably the best pork you could ever eat and the best women you could ever meet. Have fun

I have lived in PR for twenty two years and operate a limousine company. If you are driving I recommend that you find a place to stay every night through out the island or at least every other night. If you are active I recommend the bio bay in Fajardo... if you are coming during a new moon. Kayaking is exciting and the bay is beautiful. If you are staying in San Juan and don't mind staying a small guest house type of places... I recommend the Tres Palmas Inn http://www.trespalmasinn.com/ or Hosteria del Mar http://www.hosteriadelmarpr.com/ They are both in the middle (driving distance) of Isla Verde where some night life is at and major hotels (Brava Club-dancing). And Old San Juan where there are many different restaurants and night life (New York Puerto Rican Cafe for dancing). Old San Juan has many different bars that you can just walk around and go from one to another. Some of the best beaches are in Rincon especially if you like to surf. Boqueron is another great spot to just go to the beach during the day and at night hit the town for some bar hopping. I too recommend Cayey.. although not for the women but for the pork and local food. Sunday the best for that. If you like off the beaten path.. Pinones is always a great drive with nice views and places to stop at and munch on local foods and seafood. Some other great seafood places is in Salinas, near Ponce on the South side of the island. Make sure you drive from North to South.. you will go from beach flat land over a mountain range with stunning views. You can email me at royalstarlimo@gmail.com if you have specific questions. Also you can check out my web site at www.limo4pr.com I love Puerto Rico and hope that you will have a good time! FYI I am a suby lover too!! 2007 STI

That is excellent information. Thank you for going to the trouble of writing it. We are quite old physically, but put in about 50mi of mountain hiking (and 12k' vertically) in 4d on the Isle of Skye this last June so not too concerned about topographic challenges! Thanks also for the contact info.

I'm here with my wife on our honeymoon. Staying in Aguada.
Looking for some local bar/seafood places without the tourist pricing. We'll be here till Tuesday, then the east side of the Island till Saturday. |
