Yes, I Dan - Flyin 555, join the sad ranks of Scoobies, and other cars whacked senselessly by morons in SUV's.
The senseless crime occured last night in Arlington Heights. Came out to a real nice pucker right in the top of my hood. No note, no nothing. Just another a**hole who bought more vehicle than they can drive. In a damn parking lot too. No sense to rant, it has all been said. This sucks. Dan - Flyin 555

I know what its like and the pain you must feel,I've been there myself fortunately for me the moron done it while parking next to me .I come back and see this gut wrenching sight and my nephew takes revenge for me,I hope this moron learned a valuable lesson about parking next to a suby.By the way, I don't condone this kind of revenge but it was a little satisfying.

tip - find a corner spot.. park as close to the curb or the line (the side with no other spot) as you can.. this will leave lots of room for other cars parking next to you.. be patient.. don't find the closest spot to wherever you are going.. spend an extra 5 minutes to find an ideal parking spot.. my friends make fun of me but it will decrease your chance of getting damage

Kewjoe- agreed. Both my cars always get parked in "New Car Land" (edges of lot) whenever possible to avoid strikes and door dings. If no "New Car Land" spots are available it goes next to a BMW or something else that looks like the owner gives a s**t.

I have the same parking habits. At work i park on the lowest level (my building is near downtown Dallas and has a 8 level underground parking garage)in the farthest spot. It is next to a wall and i get close to the wall as possible, it leaves about 3 feet for swinging doors next to me.

this is my solution at work:
As you can see, my co-workers call it the patented triple-park. People think I exajerate when I tell them I do this but who cares. 8 months and not even a single door ding. |

Teh other day i went an parked at this store right next to the curb, i mean i was an in fron the cubr with about 2 feet of parking space left on the passenger side of my car and when i came out there was a freaking expedetion sitting like half a foot from my car all crooked in the parking lot and sticking out of the parking space, the driver was lucky they didn't hit my car cause i had my gutting knife on me that day.

Not to make you paranoid rally kid, but I've seen cars intentionally damaged when they are parked like that at large venues (wal-mart, sports stadium, theme park). Usually some miscreant kicks in a panel because they know you didn't want anything to happen, but I've seen people line up their bumper in a POS truck and then floor it.
A friend of mine used to park in 2-3 stalls and had a number of dents kicked in his car. |

yah i wouldn't park in more then 1 spot that is asking for trouble.. and yah ImprezedRS thats one problem with parking close to the curb.. people are so f'n lazy they dont' look for the lines but assume half a foot away from the car is where its suppose to be .. the farther you park the better.. but then the farther you park the better chance a theif has to steal your car .. away from all the people and activity.. tradeoffs... i say leave the car at home and take the bus

My solution is just have an old car to go places where you know there is a chance of door dings and such. When I have to go to a shopping mall or the movies I either take my gf's 88 Beretta, or if I do take my RS, I park on a side street near by, not in the pariking lot. Yeah, I know I'm paranoid, but I figure that I'll do my best to protect the car, and everything else isn't up to me.

When I worked in downtown portland, my workplace had a 6 level parking lot. I always parked at the top, but it always filled up anyway. I noticed that a super nice, new, BMW 7 series always parked next to me. One day, when I was leaving, the guy came out, (an executive in suit and tie), and asked if I had been wondering why he always parked next to me. I said yea, and he told me that when he saw my car for the first time he thought to himself "There's a guy who can apreciate a nice car" He had been dinged by several cars in the building (all SUV's by the way) and figured that we should park next to each other from now on.
Not that my scooby is anyway near as nice a a 7 series, it was still kinda cool. Oh yea, and a week later someone in an Excursion dented his pasenger side. I mean c'mon, and Excursion in a parking garage!!! Some people should be taken out in the street and run over by one of the tanks they drive. ![]() [This message has been edited by buckbomb (edited January 12, 2001).] |

ColinL- I only park like this at work cuz I know the people and they know me. Thay think it's funny that I care for my RS so much. I also have a special place to park at my church, being cool with the pastor helps out alot. Every where else see's the old "Park in New Car Land" trick.
nizz-New York is the furthest place in my mind to go in my RS. But I would do as the locals and take a cab. donjuan- 18" |

hey, to guard against the INTENTIONAL door dings and what-not when parking out in 'new car land' Dont do the patented 3parking space park job. my buddy usta park 6" from my Other buddies 98 Mitsu Diamante just for having a park job like that.
just do what i do, be subtle. dont take up as many spaces as possible (ur lookin at the king! a record SIX parking spaces taken up by my TA :rolleyes just HUG one side of ur spot. or find the end spot. course i worry about the curbs being to HIGH then...im afraid my air dam will take a bite out of the parking block or curb, or my doors will swing open and 'WHAM!' right on the top of the curb. gotta watch out for those things when you have low riding cars. Look out for the A$$hole, cuz i guarantee, hes not lookin out for you. chris |
