Post Since we bought the none turbo Impreza.....

Would you buy the new WRX '02 IF it had no turbo? (yes, there will be an NA version as well as a turbo version, as some of you have heard - but it's WHAT IF question)

Did you know.....

.....that abroad, the demand for "old" Imprezas are higher than usual? N/A even mentioned that in Japan, the "old" Impreza is selling better than the new WRX(which from what I remember him saying, is unusual)? In Europe, the value of the used Imprezas have gone up.

Looks like it'll be a while before people around the world get used to the new Impreza.

Hmmm....that Evo is looking better each day.

I would not trade in my RS for a non-turbo "new" Impreza.

But if I did not already own the RS and the non-turbo WRX was the top of the line Impreza availible, Yes I would buy one. Call me weird.

I would've bought a 2.5RS Wagon if they had built them, I just hope the "new" Impreza is available in a turbocharge wagon version!

I know of several hood scooped big winged TURBO imprezas that WILL NOT be beat by any "stock" turbo new impreza wagon. Eat those words.

In 2000 I bought my 00RS because it's an AWD and a pretty sexy little car. In 2002, if I was given a choice between the 00RS and the 02WRX, I'd go for still pick the 00RS. I personaly really don't like the look of the new WRX. Hey, call me superficial, I don't mind, I can take it.

Cheers.

Weeks ago a dealer told me that they aren't selling the new WRX's. Nobody wants them in any from. Turbo or n/a it doesn't matter. I wouldn't buy the new design in n/a version either. Its easier to make it a long term project car and swap over the real WRX parts myself.

If nobody in Japan wants them, let's hope that SOJ/SOA doesn't rethink their US launch.

Better we get a turbo of questionable style than no turbo at all!

Melllllllllllllllllllll!
ur too darn sarcastic u know. Atacking every senseless post cuz its...well....senseless.

Like 8C said in his cyrptic way - you would if you could not afford the turbo version. People buy Lancer GSRs and not Evos for that reason.

Second car I ever owed was a Mitsu Lancer Turbo. 14yrs later it blew up but it was a nice car.

I guess you are right since I'll get the new WRX since I can't afford a 22B. Good point
(no sarcasm intended).
I still don't get the point of the post tho(low to medium sarcasm). But I already mentioned that didn't I?

I completely agree with Skidd.

About a year ago, I was ready to purchase a 1999 or 2000 RS. Then, I heard Subaru would be finally importing turbo's Imprezas to the United States. So, I decided to hold off and purchase a new turbo'd Impreza next year.

However, a few month ago when I saw the actual photos of the new Impreza, I panicked. I didn't (and still don't) like the new body style, turbo or no turbo. Consequently, I immediately found a 2000 RS and purchased it.

Over one month later, I don't regret acting in haste. I still don't like the body styling of the new Impreza. Give me a n/a 2000 RS over a turbo'd "made-specially-for-the-US-but-not-really-a-Japanese-spec-WRX" Impreza anyday.

Mel,

You understand the question perfectly but you're just pretending not to. You would buy the Neon-esk Impreza if it was in NA form? Maybe, but that's your personal taste. However, the point of my question is - take away the turbo, would you still buy this Impreza the way it looks? It's gonna have the AWD drive, so that goes without saying.

Sorry....it never grew on me. But the H6 Legacy GT.....oooooh yes! Lancer Evolution? Oh baby! Neon-like Impreza? No(puh).

N/A, (forgot to respond to you, sorry)

Whao! Even the dealers aren't pushing the new Impreza??? Well, if there's no demand for this bug-eyed gremlin, why sell it, eh?

I predict a facia change on the Impreza sooner than expected. BTW, what DO your Japanese friends say about the new design?

sorry fellahs I like the new impreza.. and It will look even better up close and personal. Would I buy one that was NA.. yup.. because of the better interior, better brakes, etc.

Change is always viewed poorly at first. I love my 2000RS.. love it to death, but if I were given a choice between the new body and the old. I might not have chosen the old. I would have to actually see the new body in person first.. it aint that bad.. its just a tad more subltle. An impreza L is a very sublte looking car and look what it turned into .. give this new model a chance...

SCRAPPYDO
stephen

that rumor about not pushing the new impreza is a joke... its the car we are getting, they WILL push it. its just good business. You cant just decide that oh you dont like it so we wont push it.. my god look at the AZTEK.. those poor Pontaic salesmen have to push that... so dont kid yourselves, its coming just the way it is and it will be that way for a long time. Subaru is not known for its radical changes in cars looks from year to year..

The answer to the question: Yes.

Why? Because it will be a 2.5 and not a 2.2, which is addequate. Its the AWD that I want, and a stock impreza will hopefully be in a price range I can afford (ie under 20, close to 15)

This is gotta be the dumbest question ever...sorry for my frankness.
So take the WRX's better brakes, suspension, engine, interior, seats, wheels and tires and throw them in the trash. Then put all the stuff on the current RS on the new body style and take that car. This makes TONS of sense to me.
In truth I have no idea what this post was to accomplish.

Snoopy,
UK prices for used Imprezas are going through the floor, not the roof.

N/A, your "dealer" said they weren't selling the new Impreza "weeks ago"? As in weeks ago when people weren't even sure what the new one looked like? It just sounds to me that your Sube dealer might be interested more in filling their lot with maximum profit Outbacks than min. profit Imprezas that appeal to a much smaller target market anyway. Also consider that SOA and the American dealers (for the most part) have always been against the idea of bringing a turbocharged Subaru to the states, because of concerns of warranty issues.

Just my $0.02
