Thumbs up EVO coming ashore!

I have heard a few rumors of the Lancer EVO soon to come over here to compete with the WRX. THis sounds like it could definitely be true.

Also, heard that Motorex plans on importing EVOs in the next year or so in addition the Skyline. HHmmmmm

Has anyone else heard anything about the EVO?

Right on Subie Gal! I know we disagreed on the Burns thing before(I said he was a whiny b****), but this we can agree on. The EVO is the coolest! It's probably the only car Id buy over the WRX.

I'm with you, SubieGal.
I was just wondering if anyone heard anything else.

But, if it ever does come over here(not all trimmed down) my RS will have a borther or may be for sale.

I have heard the same thing. The best part is that unlike Subaru's, all evo's produced are 280 hp. I definately take one.

I am very dissapointed in you. Mitsu over a Subie. What would you change your name to, Evo Gal??? It just don't seem right.

Unless an EVO comes here all torn down like the WRX, or, if the WRX suddenly comes over here in ints true form, I am for the EVO all the way, I think?

Well I am sure that Mitsubishi, like other japanese car manufacturers of late, will jack up the styling before bringing it over; destroying all desire.

It is still a Mitsubishi though... I would salute them if they brought it, and would certainly give one a drive.

I'll laugh when they just change the name of the Mirage to Lancer and everybody runs to the local Mitsu dealer to check out the same old 1.6L FWD car Mitsu has always given us.

hey Mel baby!
nah.... I'll just clone myself hehehehe... and become Mitsu Gal....

u know though...
Seriously... I have read so many "P1 vs Evo" (have video of that one) & "WRX vs Evo" etc. articles... the EVO shines through... in the out an out rally sprint race the Evo wins!

i mean pleeeeaassee! have you ever been in one? seen it up close?? watched it blow by you when you? Granted... I was driving a 22B, at Knockhill, on the wrong side of the car and that was my 1st track day... but that Evo was just killer!!!!

(Squire was neck and neck w/him on the straights... just to defend the 22B...)

that car is amazing!!! I want one!!!

Thumbs up

I read an interview where Motorex stated that they did plan on bringing the Mitsubishi EVO over here in the next year or so and I will post a link if I find it. It will happen.

I remember reading in R&T that Motorex wanted to bring the EVO over, but something about it cant be converted to LHD without a ton of fabrication. I think it the location of the turbo and something about the tranny. Then there's the whole bumber thing. Plus like others pointed out if an EVO came over in pure form it would be like $35k-$45k. A loaded 220 hp Galant GTZ goes for 27k(can't get a loaded Mirage). An EVO would be way more than that. Not quite the same as WRX.

About ten Mitsu dealers in the US have said no they aren't getting it. You might want to be really careful how you word your questions as well. Don't ask if the Lancer is coming. Ask if there are any AWD Turbo cars coming. They may very well just change the name on the car back to Lancer. There is no way in hell even Motorex will get the Evo past US crash tests without cutting the front end off and fabricating in a new tube frame to strengthen it. Remember the stock Mirage barely past the US standards. If they were to someday import just the Lancer GSR then maybe since its much much cheaper then the Evo. A Evo costs more then the STI WRX. Mistu has said they are stopping at Version6 as well so no its just a rumor. Even if Motorex does a convesion on a GTR or a Skyline you might want to see what your insurance company has to say about it. They often still hate the custom imported cars.

What utter nonsense.. I looked over to the driver and he was bouncing up and down in the seat trying to go faster.

Still had him though. Then I let him through as I was offline for the right hander into Duffess.

having sat in one when I was over there I can't get over how BIG they are.. About same size as a legacy.

Sigh...not to mention parts. What if something breaks? If you prang a fender, they aren't sitting on the shelf at Mitsu. Brake pads? Nope. Wheel bearings? ...

What if it breaks? How about when it breaks. Seems that everyone I know who has owned a Mitsu (any model) has had all sorts of problems. While its in the shop, everyone who has a subie will be on the roads tearing it up!

Even if these facts were not true, anyone looking at an RS would not be the same guy (or gal) looking at an EVO, for the mere reason of price. Just like Lovejoy always saying "I'll just take the S4", it's absurd to compare the two cars. You could get two RSs for one S4.
Hey.........wait I did say that Let me clarify before the flame throwers get lit. I was saying that I would take the S4 over the New Age WRX, IFF (IF and only IF) the rumors were true about the added weight and engine. This coupled with the controversial looks would push me over the edge. The WRX would be a better OVERALL value, if styling and build quality were not in the equation. Being that nobody here has actually sat in on of the new one, I have to draw from the current build quality. But then as stated above, they are not quite in the same class. Don't get me wrong, I still look forward to the debut of the WRX, but am a little disheartened by some of the rumors. Only time will tell.

Lovejoy, true...true.

Most of these topics are SOA's fault. If they'd just release specs and prices, 90% of these threads would go away.

People just have to realize how small of a market these cars are aimed at, AWD cars more than others, and AWD sporty cars even more so. Very small percentage. Toyota sold more Camry's than Subaru's whole range. How many EVO VIs sold worldwide? 7,000 or so? Not a big market worldwide, and the US has a fraction of the world's population.

We I-Clubers have rose-colored glasses. Not that that is bad, you just have to remember to take them off now and then because no everyone can see through them.

And I kinda like it that way.

"Subaru Impreza RS? What's that? Oh, that looks pretty cool/neat/sano, tell me about it..."

Where are all these EVO rumors coming from??? Mitsubishi has no idea. Subaru knows they are bringing the wrx but do not know any specs. Wouldn't Mitsu at least know if they are bringing it? I called today. They know absolutely nothing.

Some confusing contradictions.... Help me out

1. The Mirage that we have here is not "big",isnt that the EVO overseas?

2.Why all the hype? I mean, maybe one or 2 on this board have driven an EVO,right? But we all have Imprezas, and can imagine a redesigned car with a bit more creature comforts, the same killer suspension and Subie reliability, with an extra 50-60HP thrown in right?

3. Styling. The Subie is unique now,and will be even more so with the restyle (like it or hate it) However-the EVO looks awesome at first, but dont most of you agree that you eventually thought: "RoboCop"....
Maybe the look is what many of those Ricer's (is that a bad term?)are looking for when they buy those over-the-top body kits?

4.Someone made this point already-but I havent yet heard an explanation... If MotoRex is planning on certifying the EVO-wouldnt they decide against it when they realise (as some think) that Mitsu' would bring over one that has a warranty, isnt hacked, and can be conveniently bought from a Mitsu dealer?

Have a Nice Day?

Jaybird,

Perhaps you're confusing the Skyline GTR with the EVO. I happen to know for a FACT that left hand drive EVO's are sold from Mitsubishi to countries like Germany, France and others that are LHD. The Skyline GTR is the beast that can't be converted to LHD, since the engine is slanted towards the left side of the car, and the turbos and plumbing block the space needed to install a conventional steering rack.

However, I have seen a webpage where someone successfully converted a Skyline GTR to left hand drive. I don't recall the exact details, but IIRC, it was an R33.
