Default power steering pump rebuild

The Car: 91 Legacy VZ (2.0 litre)
195,000 KM

The Problem: Noisy PS pump. Pump emits a soft whine at all speeds. Prepurchase inspection mechanic tagged it as 'noisy -- look into it' The pump looks pretty easy to refurbish. Assuming I have a kit, is it possible to rebuild the pump at the bench without special tools?

Possibly Related Problem: The steering rack is leaking badly from the boots and from the input shaft seal. Used, low mileage rack is easy to locate at a nearby wrecker, but it won't help much if the PS pump is blowing out the seals -- thought it best to start at the top and make sure the bypass valve is working right.

And no, I don't have access to PS pressure test gear -- would have to hire someone to do it.

PLAYER posted something on rebuiling the pump a while back (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=222470). There is really no reference to the part numbers you'll need, but he doesn't make it sound that hard.
