Default JDM STi HIDs in 04 WRX

I'm looking to install the JDM STi HIDs in my 04 WRX in the next few months and i know i have to splice wires and all that good stuff but this guy is selling a harness that i think will work. He said as long as the HIDs are 9005/H1 then i should be fine. Soo does anyone know if the HIDs are 9005 for the high beam and H1 for the low beam???

thanks for any and all help!

The high beam will be the same as your current WRX lights, 9005. The low beam/HIDs will be completely different however since the original H1 bulbs are no longer present. In their place will be the HID ballasts, which require a positive and negative power connection. I believe the ballasts are integral to the headlight assembly on the 04 STi lights and are therefore internally connected to the bulbs (not positive about that but pretty sure from what I've seen) so the only thing you have to deal with is getting power to the ballasts. A harness with the regular H1 connectors isn't going to do the trick.

hmm, so this harness is basically of no use to me?? Do u know where i can find out more info on this because i'd really like to find some sort of harness so i don't have to splice wires but if its just positive and negative then that would be no problem.

thanks for the quick reply!

I don't think you'll find a harness that just plugs in. I haven't looked at these lights that carefully up close yet, but I'm assuming that since the high beam is the same, it may plug into your existing wiring if the high and low beam connectors are separate. On the other hand if it's just one big plug going into the headlight maybe not.
Even without a harness, it shouldn't be that hard to connect the ballast yourself if you have some basic wiring skills. If you're "wiring challenged" I'm sure there is someone local to you who can help. I would, but I'm a bit far away

hehe, i'm not that challenged in the wiring department...i just wasn't sure if it was a big job or not. I've seen diagrams that people have drawn up and added relays all this so i was kind of sketchy...just wish i could get some accurate info from someone that has done this. I know the JDM lights are RHD is there something that i have to do to covert them so they don't blind oncoming traffic?

With the older style 02-03 JDM lights people opened them up and modified the plate inside the projector to flatten out the pattern and make them "neutral" so the beam didn't rise to either side. The 04's are reflector lights so I don't know what the JDM pattern looks like, however if it does have the same \__ E-code pattern I don't know how you can modify them. The pattern in reflectors is determined by the design of the reflector itself and that can't be changed.
As for the wiring as long as you can identify the ballast positive and negative they can be connected without too much difficulty, although without the mating connectors you will probably need to do some cutting/splicing. The best way to connect your HIDs is to directly ground the ballast negatives and use a relay to power them from the battery. The relay can be controlled from the existing headlight switching circuit that is now connected to your low beams.
