Post Wanna play in the dirt?

The Washington DC regional SCCA is looking at maybe possibly putting together some rallycross. There is a performance rally orientation day on July 15 in Burke, VA, and according to an email I got -

Please inform the autocross community that Rallycross cars will also be
covered during the SCCA Performance Rally Orientation Day. Rallycross is
basically an autocross run on grass, gravel, dirt or sand and many autocross
cars would be competitive. This is their chance to get the car a bit
sideways. With some local interest we'd be able to get a rallycross event
started in the DC region. These events in NJ and NY are always well
attended.

The DC site is http://www.wdcr-scca.org

I just went to my first auto-x on Sunday, which was fun, but dirt sounds double fun - what kind of tires would one run in dirt?

I'd love to but it's a bit far away for me as well. Personally around here a couple of us just get together and play on farm roads or quarry roads. Just make sure you keep it safe and stay on the roads - something of which I'm not exceptionally good at sometimes - I run off the road at least once a day (usually rather minor).

Well you've got two choices for tire, your standard street tire (I ran my Kumho 712's yesterday) or a gravel/dirt tire... probably something like a small truck tire. You do do a lot of sliding around on street tires so if you're into the dramatics of it all and keeping it slow enough not to kill yourself, you should stick to them, but if you're serious, gravel tires are the way to go.

my car's just a wee bit too low to play on dirt, even with the skid plates...

...ok that's one thing the Impreza's got over the A4...

WOW. I never thought I would see the day Subie Gal turned down a Rallycross.

It is a blast. The worst thing that will happen is once you have done one you start looking at open fields in a different way. You think...Man if I could just get in that field without getting the cops called on me...
