Default Impreza L Foglight Replacements

have a question: (I searched), has anyone put foglights on a 1995-2001 Impreza L? They have a part of the bumper that has a cut out for fog-lights but I don't like the OEM Lights you can buy from Subaru.

Can anyone tell me what they have done/bought or what they would do?

all help is appreciated

I'm thinking about the same thing...

Not only are the stock fogs relatively ineffective, they're very hard to find.

MY97 and later have plastic panels that fit into the 'cutouts', you might be able to put other fogs in with them.

MY96 and earlier, it seems you're SOL. I've decided on using Hella Micro DEs, but can't see any way to do it without cutting the bumper plastic (and I refuse to do a bumper conversion). You'll also have to remove at least a part of the wheel well liner to get access to the underside of the bumper.

If you try any of this, post some pics...

My car is actually a 1997....so i'm thinking about just cutting into the bumper and doing some sort of mod that looks good, I just have to find a foglight that has a similar shape so the hole doesn't look odd.

any other ideas out there?

I have a 1998, which had a black plastic cover over where the fog lights would go. I cut out the plastic mesh part of the cover & installed some PIAAs.

I don't know if the 1997 model had the same setup.

I'll try to take a picture tomorrow.

I need to email it, since I'm not set up with a site that hosts pics.

i have a 97L..wheni still had my L bumper on the car, i pulled out the black "covers" and put in a set of oval shaped Pilot fog lights. they were almost the exact same shape as the oval mesh part of the covers.. i was gonna cut the covers to make them look stock, but never got around to it. if anyone wants a spare set of covers to cut, i have em..and dont need em. $20 shipped.
any Autozone or Pep Boys will stock foglights like these..i think APC uses the same exact desin as the Pilots i had, i know PIAA made the sme ones too..im sure every company has em now..they are the ones with a 2nd bulb in each light..that can be wired as a parking light or turn signal..usually this bulb is blue becuase the fogs tend to have a slight blue tint to the lense.
mounting them is a pain.. i had to pull my bumper skin off and make a few holes..then i realised if i didnt care how they sat in the opening, i coulda used the factory hole and a bolt. the self-tappers i used would start to back out after a few months.
i can get pics of how they are mounted tomorrow..they are still on the bumper beam, which is in my garage.

also, i have a spare Mystic blue 97L/OBS bumper for sale if anyone wants it too..with [modified]turnsignals(parking light/turn signal...1157 bulb relocated to rear of light housing.)

I believe I have the PIAA 1000 series (It's been 5 yrs since I put them, so I am not positive of the part number). They are the oval shaped ones. I think they are pretty similar to the 1000X, except the 1000s have the black casing & the 1000X has the chrome casing.

I think they are different than the 1000XT Platinum Extreme lamps on PIAA's web page.

I think I paid around $180-200 from a local shop.

One note about these lights, you should turn them off before you turn off the ignition (or start the car). Since power to our car's lights is turned on or off with the ignition, there is a short time where the voltage (or amperage) to the PIAA's is insufficient and you risk burning out the bulb pretty quickly.
