Ok, here are the details...
President owns: 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera Rwd 2dr Cabriolet (3.6L 6cyl) Horsepower: 315 Torque: 273 Drive Type: RWD Curb Weight: 3370 lbs (Convertible) Manual Transmission 6 speed - 0-60: 5.0-5.2 (Keep in mind this is manual transmission times) 1/4 mile was 13.7 at 105 mph I recall in the article from home Article on the Porsche (by the way, very good one) with the tested stats: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....&page_number=7 My Car: 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon (2.0L 4cyl 5M) Drive Type: AWD Curb Weight: 3165 lbs. Aftermarket by TurboXS: Running Stage 2 : http://www.turboxs.com/utecstg2.htm In addition to Stage 2: TXS Up-pipe(http://www.turboxs.com/turboxs_catless_uppipe.htm) Samco IC Hoses Estimated Horsepower: 315 horses (???) Estimated Torque: ??? 0 - 60 times calculated by GTECH (http://www.gtechpro.com/gtechpro.html): 4.9 - 5.1 seconds Now this is what I want to know... can I win? Keep in mind I would like to leave with my paycheck... His Porsche is an automatic. The president when speaking with him already said he will use the triptronic (sp?) when he races me. ALSO, keep in mind my president does not really know how to drive and I am sure he will screw up shifting and so forth with the triptronic. He has no idea when to shift I am sure so I know this will be to my advantage. So, what do you all think... do I have a chance? Note: I am sure this will not happen, I mean I know how things are discussed and never happen, come on, corp. america... but in case it does I guess I would be curious because it might make me egg him on. )Kevin

turboxs stage 2 doesn't make 315 hp. It makes around 225 whp which is what counts. I used to say I had 300 hp too, but I can't believe there is that much drivetrain loss. If you get a good launch, you could give him a run for his money, but it's hard to goof up auto.

Here is what I would recommend if you want to win (the real race):
- Tell him what a great car he has (he does, bosses like compliments) - Tell him your car is fast but it would probably not beat his. - Tell him you don't race except off road on tracks where it is safe (he will think you are responsible) - If he brings up the subject of a race tell him that the race you are interested in is getting ahead at the company and in your career. - You have a dialog and a common interest with a honcho, take advantage of it. ![]() |

You need NAWWWWZZZZ! No, make it two. The big ones.
Just make sure you spend the $10 to do it at a strip... and don't frag yer tranny trying to beat a Porsche. He's gonna have some problems launching the auto, isn't he? (I dunno how those automagical thingies work)-bd |

My president is a decent guy... I mean I have been with this co. for 4.5yrs now and since it is a small co. and I work at HQ my pres. knows me by name. Hell, I have drank wine with him in his office once... and he let me drive his Porsche once... wohoo!
I mean he is a good guy so this is not something that would affect our working relationship or anything, this is just a fun sort of thing. I know automatics are hard to mess up, but like I said if he uses the triptronic his shift points will not be "optimal" I am sure... this is why I thought I might have a really good shot IF this ever would happen, which I doubt it would. Anyway, I was just curious... Kevin PS> THIS WOULD BE AT A TRACK... I am not that... well yes sometimes I am not too bright but this is not one of those times, haha! |

He has RWD you have AWD tell him you will race him on a dirt track there will be no problem for you but it may be hard for him to get out of the hole that his RWD will make.

If he runs a 13.7, you definitley have a chance if your car's tuned right. If he's any slower, you should definitely beat him. You'll have him out of the hole, for sure, but he'll be slowly catching up after the 1/8 mark. Does he think he'll stomp you? 'cause he won't. Have you been to a drag strip? Do you think it's wise to show up your own boss?! I'd love to see the race.

Well, I know for a fact my president does not know anything about Subaru's... he has been driving Lexus, Jag, Caddy so he knows nothing of the "every day car". I know my little wagon would suprise him and prolly most of the people I work with since they do not know much if anything about vehicles. I really think the people at HQ (about 20 or 30) would come out for this.
As for showing him up it would be ok... he would take it well... I mean basically yeah I MIGHT take him on the strip BUT his Porsche is SWEET. Anyway, IF this does go down I will let everyone know on the board but like I said my presidnet mentions things but sometimes the follow through is not there, I mean he is a VERY busy guy. On that note, I really do have to say he deserves everything he has. He started the co. in 1988 and built in from the ground up. It is only 300 people but it does a decent business and he is a very giving man to charities and diff organizations, especially his church. Anyway, enough of the bio... I will keep ya posted on the outcome of this... if any. Thanks for everyones input... not to sound cocky but if I get a GOOD launch and he does not handle his power right, I think I can take him... ("I'm gonna win, I'm gonna win"... pop open the laptop, pass the starting line, reverse, have everyone look at me... LOL) |

Bring him out a real track like Summit, and see how he likes being passed by a wagon there!

Thanks Jim, good to know!!!
I sent the president some links today for different drag strips and what now... I also sent him a link to Summit since I know he would enjoy it and also learn more about how the car "should" be driven. If this DOES go down I will let everyone know... As for being a kiss-a** with my pres. and patronizing him... no way! I have always been honest with this guy, even when I think stuff is wrong and ever other yes man is shaking their head. This is why he values my opinion... we shoot the shi* a lot about a lot of diff topics and like I said we have a good relationship. Anyway, my career can not go much further position wise (small co.) but I mean it does have its perks. Anyway, enough of the justifying why I am not going to patronize the guy... "You can ask any racer, any real racer... it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or by a mile, winning is winning." |

Lets stop talking about it and DO IT!!
Chances are...that he won't try to put his foot through the floor board like you will...(my experience with 911 drivers)... Hint steal a can of compressed air from the office turn it upside down and spray the hell out of your intercooler!! Then tell your boss that is why you won! This'll be fun to see!! |

All I need to do now is find a place... see my other post...
The president was talking smack at our little get together this afternoon (monthly b-day party thing for people) and was making it sound like since he has a Porsche, it can not be beat. this has kind of fueled my fire to go through with this. So anyway, I am shooting for either next Friday or before... have to wait and see if the schedule can swing it. |
