Cool I know someone who has the new 3.0 flat six in his garage......

This is some pretty neat info. The secret "mega" tuner (wait till the Maine rally, Ok?)had SOA over at his shop. SOA showed up with the 22B. The "tuner" took the restrictor plate out of his "street car" and promptly spanked the 22Bs ass. Maybe spanked isn't a strong enough word. The 22B might as well have been in reverse, it would not have mattered.
The SOA guys were, well, stuned. They started asking a whole bunch of questions about how the tuner built his engines. The tuner asked "what's in it for me?" SOA gave him the brand new 3.0 flat six and told him to "play with it."

Ah yes, things are looking very bright for Sube fanatics in the coming months. Save your pennies folks. We will have some great aftermarket parts soon!
ARG

PS If anyone in Southern California wants to meet this person. I will going to his shop on weds. the 21st of June. Give me an email, and we can meet at a predetermined place and you can follow me to his shop. The shop is in Upland, California.

Wink

Come on Shiv, I know that you don't believe anything that I post. So I decided to get some dyno charts from this guy. I will scan and post his dyno figures sometime this week. I don't want people to think that I just make this stuff up.

He is using 2.5 litre quad cam and single cam motors. These motors are NOT STOCK in any way. I will back up my statements with proof. I don't want to known as "ByronII."

Thanks, ARG

Sure, I'd be interested in seeing this shop. Hell, I even have a Kodak DC-240 with a whole slew of lenses. I can take pix to prove to the whole world that this is real! :]

Cool

I'm not questioning the truth behind any of this..

Another tuner will only mean good news for the public.

But surely removing a restrictor will required a remap to get the most, otherwise the engine will be running lean ?

Maybe he already had a map for the non-restrictor equipped motor ready for a rainy day...

Question

Wait wait wait! You mean to tell us that SOA, from NJ, went all the way to CA, with a 22b, to race this guy....I'm assuming on the street....because that would be the best corporate decision SOA could make, illegal street racing! And...not only did he beat the 22b, he made it look like it was standing still!?!? Oh no, I'm sorry..."reverse" did you say? riiiiiiiight!!

Where's the proof? Did YOU actually see this take place?

Did you also hear that I have 950 Static Horsepower to the wheels of my RS!! With an extra 500hp on days when it's a full-moon!

ARG- I'm harmless really, and always joking around, but I think we would all be very interested to see the proof of this monumental event!

Yeah, my guess is that if there is a resitrictor plate on there he has tuned both with and without and has remapped the ECU for both situations with save files of each configuration available at the drop of a hat.

My question would be, was that car all motor or turbo?

Cool

You can bet it is turbo, and you can take it tothe bank that there is NO 22b that could hold a candle to it. This is also no "street" car although you would be surprised what runs on the streets in california. Tuners BE AFRAID.

Perhaps he had a real Group A WRC Impreza in his garage. That's only what... maybe $100k-200k for a '98?

Turbo lives in FL, a bit away from CA.

Hello,

Oooh! Aaaah! Beat the 22B, eh? Wow, that makes it as good as the first, hack-job SCC project impreza, eh? When what was it, Motorweek or something ran the HKS sloppy turbo, poor tuning, put-together-at-the-last-second turbo impreza against the 22B, it stomped on the 22B. Since some of the turbo imprezas out there are faster than that hobbled car was, some of the US turbos are faster than the 22B. For one example, Shiv says his current ride is faster than the previous SCC Impreza...

Anyway, it's pretty damn easy to build a non-street car that's faster than the 22B. Heck, at 3000 pounds (RS with driver and fuel), it would take about 300 hp to run a 12.5 second 108 mph quarter mile. That would "walk away" from the 22B... Now take a 350 hp turbo (may be obtainable with completely stock internals, if Shiv ever dyno's his car . That should put the Impreza at an 11.9 at 113 mph. That would surely walk away from the puny 22B which probably has less torque than a well tuned 2.5 liter turbo engine...

I'm not impressed and I doubt SoA would be so silly as to be shocked that a car that someone spent more than 5k on should beat the 22B...

Talking

Well, all I can say is that SOA gave him the new flat six to play with. That should tell you something. He KNOWS people at SOA.

Are you ready for this? His motors spend a lot of time at CARB. He is working on a CARB legal 400 HP 2.5 litre engine that you can put in your Sube. Any Sube. His website is almost ready. Get your wallets ready.

Soon, you won't have to buy used STi engines and try to make them fit in your car and make it pass smog.

Get ready boys and girls. I'll post his dyno slips soon enough.

For those who want to go to his shop on Weds., I will send you an email tonight with directions.

Like so many things Subaru, Ill beleive when I see it.

For our car to handle 400hp it would need way more than a tuned motor.

I do recall ARG saying this guy is breaking tranny's at 350hp (in another thread).

I'm suspicious too, but keeping an open mind. We need more to people to agree to visit tomorrow!

Well, Upland is in LA County, near Rancho Cucamonga and Pomona, west of the I-10/I-15 junction.

I can make the drive, but I need an address to go to.

Cool

Can you guys say paddle shifter...can you say so many proprietary parts it would make an aftermarket retailer cry (with all the restocking)? Can you say "yes please, I'll
take one "calloway/amg/buell" of the Sube world? Can you say "Sooooo inexpensive"?
Can you wait for more details??? Can you say "Make my day"? Hows that for suspense?
