Default Question about AutoX classifications

Ok I have been to a few SCCA autoX this year, and I myself as well as others seem to have mixed opinions on what class my car falls in. I have been one SCCAs website and just got more confused. Anyway I have an '03 WRX sedan w/ the following mods.

Aftermarket Cat-back exhaust
Short throw shifter
Strut Bar
Samco I/C hoses
removed air silencer
aftermarket lowering coil springs only
Turbo Timer
17inch wheels/DOT tires
STI hood scoop

I think thats all anyway everything else is completly stock. I have been moved from D stock to STX back to a stock class and almost to a Mod class. I dont plan on making much more mods, but just curious if this is all legal in a stock class. KC maybe you can help me out on this one. Hmmm thanks for any input.

Default Re: Question about AutoX classifications

The only question I have is what do you mean by DOT tires? DOT R-Compound or just regular street tires? R-Compound will put you in ESP or SM (they're legal in stock too, but most of the mods you listed aren't allowed in Stock). Street Tires 140 treadware or more would be STX, and allowed in SM and ESP... just at a defecit of grip.

In STX, I/C hoses are under question because the rules state 'Hoses up to the Throttlebody' are legal. No one on a national level has run them for fear of a protest that someone would think they're part of the intercooler. (I think they're legal... but am to chicken to try it. When 1st place is on the line... you don't need a protest.)

Locally, I could care less. It's when you get to the national level you'd have to concern yourself with this.

The other thing is the STi hood scoop. It's not tecnically a 'body kit' and it does give a mild improvement in cooling of the IC. That's not legal in STX... but again... I could care less locally. Others might take issue with it. Dunno.

Same thing... locally.. I'm cool with it. But then again, it's not allowed in the rules. You'd be in SM for that. ESP doesn't even allow it.

All the other stuff is legal in STX, SM and ESP.

You're definitely not allowed in stock with those combined mods.

Yeah I do have regular street tires. So I would be safe running in STX in the NER events?

I have no issue with it. But it's not really up to me. It's up to everyone else in the class.

You will be fine in STX locally. Beyond that the scoop and hoses might get you protested

I wouldn't worry about the scoop and hoses because they give you a very minor advantage. I might worry if you were placing top 3 in your class and ticked someone off.

There was a guy running in SM with a stripped interior at the last auto-x. I was going to say something to him, since I had met him before and hes a nice guy, but then my brother pointed out the lack of rear carpet and paneling in the Scirocco. Its illegal, but probably only takes .010 off my time at the most. I've got all season M+S bridgestones, so I'm not placing high enough for someone to protest or make a fuss. But I am placing higher than STG3 WRX's
