Talking OT: The Ultimate Driving Sim - F355 Challenge for Dreamcast

Read the review here: http://dreamcast.ign.com/reviews/15388.html

Since I've never been on a race track, only autox's, I don't know how realistic this game really is. If any of you have driven on a race track, please buy this game NOW and tell me if it is at all close to really racing.

So far it's been nothing but, smiles since I've been playing this

It's ok but nothing really special. You can only pick one car and it's balance is VERY easily upset when you play with the car's settings. The only thing that is cool about it is the ability to power into a corner and end up oversteering and drifting the corner - though naturally the computer takes that chance to pass you quicker then you can imagine (how I have no clue).

All in all, if you can get the game for cheap ($20) I'd say it'd be worth it if you're a hardcore racing gamer like myself.

David & Buster has the arcade version of F-355 challenge. It is my all time favor game.

The physics of the game is very real, much better than Daytona or Super GT. A pretty hard game to beat though.

BTW, who else turns all the helpers off? I usually turn them all off, sometimes leave the ABS on only.

8Complex - What your doing is exactly what I did before I bought it for the dreamcast. It took me all weekend to get the hang of the game, and learning not to mash the analog triggers. When you skid or slide off the track, you get passed very easily, as in real life. Unlike our AWD monsters, you have to think about your corner exit, rather than power through the entire corner.

The computer AI is the best I've come across in a race sim. The computer is not stuck in a predetermined course, you can run them off the track as easily they run you off the track. The computer will sometimes get out of your way if your behind a slower car.

The game is HARD, it took me all weekend practicing, just to get 2nd on Monza. Now, I can't wait to get to Dave & Busters to try out my skillz on the arcade.

Since I have the hang of the game now, I turn the helpers off. I recommend anyone who plays it, to use the tutorials and helpers at first, then once you get the hang of it turn them off.

I've had the game for a little over a month now. After playing with all of the settings, I find that I like to play with traction control on, everything else off, with a small front sway bar, and a large rear. I've gotten quite good at drifting the car (sometimes completely sideways) through corners. The other drivers seem courteous enough not to hit you...so if you keep it sideways more often than not, they'll have a hard time passing you.

Speaking of Dreamcast games, anybody here try to get the fastest time for the A license in the WRX in Super GT? That was quite a challenge (took me three two hour sessions just to shave the one second I needed -- various objects were randomly thrown violently), but you get the Cusco Impreza. I was hoping they would give me the rally car. I assume the WRC car is in there somewhere?

HAHA. I got first in two player mode in the arcade on Suzuka Short. On full sim. mode. Ask, NeedaScooby. I also got third in Suzuka Short on full sim. in arcade mode. For some reason, 1 player is harder, oh well. I will beat anyone. Sorry, i got so excited. i love that game. By the way it is very realistic, and tough to learn, but very rewarding.

dang, F355 is nothing compared to Racing Jam? Racing beat? Something like that from Konami. On easy, the physics model is weird/unrealistic, but crank it up to hard or the Auto-X mode, and its friggin bad a$$. you know any other game that has a WRX coupe and wagon as possible choices? Evo, NSX, 200SX, Integ, Skyline, etc, all slammed with 4 in. tippes. Alumunim spherical shifter with gates ala Ferrai with an E-brake handle. Awesome game.

Don

P.S. Its at Palace Park for those who are near Irvine, CA

I've played that game, but didn't like it because of the physics, i'll try it on harder if you say it's more realistic. That too is a very cool game.

I just Bought Sega GT a few weeks ago...Just came out...I've played a lot of driving sims, This one is one of my favorites. Is a lot like Gran Turismo, but better graphics, better car upgrades, more challenging, and everything Subaru (Pleo, WRX v4,5,6, 22B, SVX and even a Legacy B4) ...No stinky wagons! Plus you can even design your own car! From the body, engine (in-line, V, Boxer) Forced induction to suspention, sway bars and weight reduction.

Not a SEGA rep...Just an addict!

Racing Jam/Beat's got hillclimbs and downward hillclimbs (hill drops?) Get the WRX, speed toward the curve, both feet in, turn, yank up the e-brake and do a glorious drift around a hairpin turn. *sigh*

Rob B: You got the Cusco Impreza in Sega GT? I'm impressed! I gave up after an hour or so. You got the Works 22B with all the Subaru graphics right? That was much more attainable.

F355 Challenge is one hard game. But damn, the game is so realistic!

About Konami's Racing Jam, sure the cars are cool and it's exciting. But the games physics are too bull and it's way too easy.

8 says: "All in all, if you can get the game for cheap ($20) I'd say it'd be worth it if you're a hardcore racing gamer like myself."

What?! YOU ARE NOT A HARDCORE RACING GAMER, 8!!!! Hahahahahahahaha
I paid $34 for F355 at http://www.tronixweb.com/ and it's worth every penny.

8 also says: "The only thing that is cool about it is the ability to power into a corner and end up oversteering and drifting the corner - though naturally the computer takes that chance to pass you quicker then you can imagine (how I have no clue)."

Ok. That does it. 8, next time you and I have time, I'm dragging you over to Gameworks so I can show you that it's not only the computer that takes that chance to pass you quicker than you can imagine.

Maybe I'll even show you how I do it.
