My friend tells me that she keeps seeing an AWD Dodge or Chrysler Van. Like a Minivan family Van. Does that exist, and when did they make it. Maybe they're just buying the AWD stickers, hehe, got Pilaff? (spelling).

I saw one yesterday. AWD - plain as day and I wonder if it's really supposed to be 4WD like I normally see on some mini vans.

Yep, it exists. Not a rare find at all. Quite a few minivans out there have AWD.

I believe that Chrysler and Chevy are the only ones to offer AWD on their mini-vans. And they have been doing it for a couple years now, something that I thought was stranger was that their was a AWD Ford Tempo!

Chrysler Minivans have been avail with AWD since like 95 (previous generation) or something. GM has had AWD as an option on Astro/Safari minivans since 89. The bad azz Syclone and Typhoon drivetrain was based on that platform.

The old previa had a 4cylinder turbo AWD. Best mini-van ever. The chryslers have had it since 95ish, and the Astro/safari also has it. The Ford Aerostar also had AWD available.
Those are the vehicles that 99% of the people who own SUVs should be driving. -mike |

CRVs are based on those AWD civic wagons. If you look at them next to each other you can really tell.

The prototype Dodge Charger is AWD. Now that's a mean looking car...

I read somewhere that at maximum, the torque split is 90/10 front/rear for Chrysler minivans.
So it's not the same type of AWD. It cannot be compared to Subaru's AWD. I have seen a Ford Tempo awd, an Aerostar awd, an MPV awd and many Corolla awd. |

I'm sorry, El Kabong, but the new prototype Dodge Charger is most definitely not AWD. It's main claim to fame is that it has a 375ish HP supercharged 4.7L OHC V8 that runs on CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). It has a standard RWD layout, using a T56 tranny, similar to the one found in the Camaro. I think the Charger concept is mucho bad ass, and would like to see it reach production, perhaps as a Camaro/Mustang fighter, to get Chrysler back into the affordable performance car arena.

Chrysler do something bold... Well maybe, but fight with Ford and Chevy... I think not... They are just to chicken or something... Hell recall when they got bold and started making cop cars that were smoking the street rodders... What happened to the good ole days of dodge???

Ok, the current prototype Charger is not AWD, but I did read that AWD would be an option. I'll look for the magazine that I read this in.
