Default Need a grommet....please help me.

I need a grommet...basically i need to be able to get the head of a ballast (31mmx33mm) into the rear cap of a set of STI lights....then be able to seal it up so no moisture gets in.

The wire diameter is 3/8

A heat shrink grommet would be ideal (if they even make those?)...or something rubbery that has an outer diameter of like 1.5 inch and an inner of 3/8s.

Thanks in advance.

I bought some grommets from www.mcmaster.com
I'm not sure if they have the right size for you, but they have a list of different sizes and cross section shapes (some with rounded edges, some with square/prismatic edges).
There are also blind plugs that you can punch holes if you can't find a matching grommet there.

Good luck

I had a similar question. I am going to go to home depot later and am going to get some type of waterproof, high heat epoxy to fill it with. You could always go to home depot and explain you dilemna and see what they suggest.

I picked up a firewall grommet from a dealer last year for this exact purpose. I think I have the part number. I'll check later and post it.

That's probably less expensive for a one-time use like this. The grommets I bought were in a bag of 100, so they are less expensive per piece, but unless you plan on using a lot of grommets, it may not be the best way to go.

Well, go something going...

Went to autozone..they have that section with all the HELP stuff.

Got a large grommet from a GM. Large enough for the plug of the ballast to go through. Then a GM master cylinder cap.

The grommet seals up the edged of the hole. Then i made a samll hole in the master cylinder cap, and cut a slit into it. This slides over the cable, and seals up fairly well with the grommet.

Then i used automotive Goop to seal it all up...hopefully it holds, and is waterproof....
