I just read that article too. With all the electronics and intake on the car they should have been at 195 without the turbo. I'm thinking that since the mag had tons of errors in it they might have meant 195 to the wheels? That would be around the mid 200 range right? Anyway, this turbo kit had intake, muffler, intercooler, boost controller, and tons of other goodies that should hold a ton of boost. I wouldn't think 195 to the wheels would be out of reach. Its not the 300+ hp that some are getting from 2.5 turbos.

195 to the wheels sounds a bit high actually. I believe that a few people have figured that the subaru drivetrain losses are pretty excessive and that the stock RS gets between 95 and 115 hp to the wheels. Going to 195 from even a high figure of 120 means you'd need a boost of over 60% to get there, and from what I've seen and heard, most of the turbos start at only 30-40% more HP peak unless you're doing some funky electronics stuff like shiv and imprezer plan on doing...

Nah 195 to the wheels should be easily achievable.. The Minnam stage 2 kit has been reported at 183 to the wheels without all of the extra stuff that Shive has done to his

Wasn't the HKS Impreza running like 5 lbs of boost, from it's tiny turbo? That's probably the reason for the low horsepower numbers.

The HKS turbo is running pretty low boost. What were they at in one article-3 psi? owch.

195 to the flywheel, guys, not 195 to the wheels. Don't overcomplicate it-the turbo is crap compared to what we have now.

The article is in June 2000 copy of Import Racer. Not something I've ever read before, but it had something on the cover so I bought it. I would expect more out of HKS with the history they have in other cars, so I guess I'll keep saving for the minnam kit.

I think max boost they had it running was 7.1 psi and was getting @220hp on high setting and low was 3 lbs IIRC according to autoweek who first featured it. Then the C&D MAFS problems happened then it was featured in SCC on the 8 great cars and tuner cars issue. And this recent months Import Racer and even Super Street.
