Post Why do we hate Honda???

I'm just curious. As a newbie I've browsed the board and have seen some major Honda hating. Now I dislike R*cers as much as the next person but I love Hondas. I love Subies. I love cars. If I could have a garage and have whatever, some Honda's and Subies would co-exist there. I've just recently learned about Subies and sometimes wish I didn't buy my Si so I could have had a nice downpayment on a WRX. Either way, after the first year I'll probably get a 2003 WRX but i'm not going to get rid of that Si. It's fun.

I have owned a couple of Honda's and I think they are AWESOME! They are probably the most high-tech vehicle on the planet. Toyota is a very close second. If Honda would have made the Integra GS-R with AWD, oh man.......

I'm not sure. I think it comes down to a matter of taste. We are the minority when it comes to the world of Japanese tuning. So Scooby owners tend to get picked on a bit. Since we own Scoobies some of us don't quite like some of the clearly idiotic things that some honda owners with too much free time and money do to their cars. Those people with the bad taste tend to have attitudes that match their taste.
For me I think a nice car is a nice car. No matter who owns it or who makes it.

I personally dont 'hate' honda's or any type of car...
I am a performance nut and can appreciate all performance oriented vehicles... i just prefer some over others...

what i do hate are the posers who try to get you to street race, who cut you off, who flash their hazards (is something wrong w/ya car??? ) that kind of thing... just immaturity and disrespect.. that's what peeves me.... whether it's a honda, vw, hehehehe... viper.... makes no matter...

WARNING...
keep this thread constructive and dont let it become a bash/hate/flame war...

Mmmm viper, that car just rocks. At our local SOLO1 events there's one in SGS Stock (we use motorola cup rules) and god damn does it kick ass.

I don't want to start a war. That's not my purpose. It's just that I feel more comfortable here in the Subie part of the world and I'd like to meet up someday with some owners. Owning a Honda, however, I wonder if I'd be accepted. I've seen some nasty thoughts said. I agree most Honda owners do STUPID things to their cars and it's sickening. As for repsect, it's funny you should mention it. The Club Si board has enough talk over there about the WRX to start a new forum. And it's all good talk.

Again, I'm not trying to start a war. Just trying to get insight.

Yeah...the sad thing is that there is soooo many hondas out there, that the enthusiast to r|cer ratio is very low... im a firm believer that if subaru sold as many imprezas as honda sells civics, we would see the same amount of r|ce to enthusiast ratio...

But there will be idiots owning ALL type of cars... Ask memnoch, now that 2.5Rs's are becoming a lot more popular here, weve seen a few boyracers with them...this one guy brought one to an autoX with everything stock except some ugly chrome 18's!!!!! pathetic!

Honda's are not the easiest cars to like, mainly because of the lack of torque on the DOHC VTEC engines (GSR/Si/ITR) which makes it less drivable in normal situations (for most enthusiasts, i dont find my car hard to drive)...

I just got rid of a Civic EX to get my Scooby, and I can tell you I really did not like that car very much. I grew up on water cooled VW's, which had some torque,( but nothing like the Scoob) and after I started driving in the Civic, I wanted to throw up on it. Talk about gutless. I owned a Honda motorcycle for 7 years and I loved it, still wouldn't buy anything but a Honda as far as motorcycles go.
I guess one og the real reasons I can't stand Hondas is because I worked in a Dyno shop for about 2 years, and just about everyone who came in with a Honda were punk kids, who thought that their car was just the bomb because it was lowered and had an intake on it. They actually thought they had something really unique when they rolled in with a pair of clear turn signals and 17" wheels. Most would just talk so much smack about their "Dope" rides that I wanted to slap them. Then you drive on the street and since I worked in a shop, my VW had a nice exhaust on it, not a coffee can, just a nice exhaust, but the minute you pulled up to a light and a Civic pulled up next to you, they always figured that you wanted to race, so they would blip the throttle a few time and give you that look. Then, when you destroy them from the light, (simply because most of them couldnt drive their way out of a paper sack) they call you a cheater, and want to know where your nos bottle is hidden. Can you say loser? I thought you could. I don't neccesarily hate Hondas, I just hate what has become of them. Seriously, go to a new car show some time, and stand aroun the Honda display. There is always gonna be some kid with his hat on upside down and sideways, his pants falling off his behind, wearing a wife-beater t-shirt and he is sitting in a Civic like its the Holy Grail. You will hear him say to his friends, "Dude, this is tight!!" " This is the baddest ride in here!!" "I'm gonna put nitrous on it and slam it and put juice on it and get a thumpin system for it." "You know what would really set this bad dog off? Some of those clear taillights!!!"
Meanwhile an NSX is sitting right next to it and they don't even care enough to notice it.
Thats why I don't like them anymore.

Having just come from a 99 Prelude to a 01 RS, I can love and respect both cars. I miss my Preludes high revving purr and the VTEC switch-over at 5200. I miss the topend speed that the Subie doesn't have.
What I don't miss is the weak lowend power and lack of torque. The rough ride over bumps, the lack of character on the car and the heavy weight. The Subie has plenty of usable power (wish there was more up top)and plenty of character and a suspension that handles bumps much better (albeit too much roll). Finally, gotta love that AWD. I will have another Honda again one day...but it will have to be of S2000 caliber so I can be in a category where I don't have to worry about all the chumps ricing them out.

I don't hate honda's

just idiots..

unfortunatly for honda's there are alot of them out there.. so it's just statistics that there will be a higher # of honda driving idiots than subaru driving idiots..

great cars.. pretty amazing engines..

if they'd just fix the civic and put it back the way it was (Si)....

I am one up on you. Not only do I own a Honda and a Subaru, my Honda is a CR-V. Talk about a black sheep of the family. There are really very few people who really hate Honda's, they are just really vocal. Try not to let it get to you (hard) and remember that most of us are just car nuts. I try to think of all the add-ons that are on some cars (not just Honda) as art. These guys are just trying to make their cars look good (to themselves at least). I may not agree with all they do, but it's their car, not mine. If they like it, cool, and I can appreciate good work even if I don't like the color of the paint or the wing that has to go around bridges due to clearance issues. Just remember that tolerance is the way to go, and who knows, maybe we can have a Honda club vs. Subie club day at the local autocross or dragstrip. Fun is the goal.

i don't hate honda's either, i just don't like them.

i looked at an Si for about 5 seconds, then decided against it, personally. I just think the interiors are very cheap looking (yeah, i know there's an arguement about our interior, too), but for what you get with Civics and Accords, I don't think they're worth the money.

There's a lot of Honda bashing over at the site I most often frequent, the VW Vortex, too.

Too bad, it's pretty silly. I've owned Hondas, Mazdas, Toyotas, American cars, a Volvo, and right now, my VW.

They all have their good and bad points, I'm an auto-enthusiasts, I just like good cars.

Next time someone picks on Subaru, tells us that our cars don't make power, are not fast, can't handle like an Integra, Etc, Etc, Etc, just remind them that the Subaru 2.5 RS took 1st and 2nd place out of 47 cars in the Street Touring class at the SCCA Solo II Nationals in Topeka KS last fall. So there.

It's the people not the car. It can be any car model be it Honda to Subaru.... Ferraris to Fords. It's the owner's attitude that pisses me off.

Why is it that some punks ride around in a Civic EX with an aftermarket wing and maybe some nice rims, want to race and then get mad at you when you beat them?

I must say that I agree with most everyone that's posted so far. sidewaysmike makes some good points but I must say that yeah the Si is low on torque but I always manage to stay with traffic and I shift at 3000rpm. I'm also stock.

JGard18-I have to disagree with you. The interior is cheap but it's a $17,000 car. I walked out of the dealer with every possible option I could want. I couldn't really ask for more out of a sub 20k car.

I own more Honda products than Subaru products... and I love them all... hating a manufacturer isn't the case, like many have said, it's the people that make things look bad. Like all the morons riding their CBR's around with shorts, t-shirts and sandals...

it's much like anything else...i don't hate the honda's....i just hate the attitude that some drivers have...i think it's the fact that honda's are so numerous...and aftermarket parts are so attainable...that we tend to notice the honda driver acting like a jerk more than we would if he was in another car...let's face it...it's not the cars we hate...it's the individual..personally...i happened to like the some honda's...namely the si, type-sh, type-r, gsr...just to name a few...we really shouldn't generalize...just because a few honda drivers are jerks...doesn't mean that all of them are...that's just my $0.02

I used to have a 95 GSR, and it could probably outrun alot of rs's on this site, but then again the GSR wasn't awd, and plus it was too common.

Stranger: "What do you drive?"
Me: "An integra"
Stranger: "Oh yeah? me too."

Every where you go you can be garunteed to see atleast a handful of them. I personally don't hate hondas, not even civics, I do hate those idiots that try to turn a Civic, which is made for commuting, daily driving, into something that's supposed to be a "RACING MACHINE" Hence the sn "Die Civic". I think VTEC is alright, but it's made for high-end power, I'm more into low end, and boy does this RS have some good low end torque.

I was not trying to say that a stock RS could outperform an ITR (a car that is the most purpose-built and highly factory tuned car out there, as well as costing 7k more), just making the point that noone has any basis for putting down the performance or ability of the RS.
