Thumbs down The worst Le Mans in the history of motorsport

I watched about 13 of the 24 hours this year, and this is what I have concluded. IT SUCKED! It was the most boring Le Mans I have ever watched. In fact it was so boring, NASCAR looked ok.

Why you ask? There were 7, count em, 7 different types of cars there. Plus 2 or 3 custom built cars entered in the LMP675 class (of which Canada kicked ass!). Gone were the awesome McLaren's, Skyline's, Supra's, CLK-GTR's, Toyota GT-1's and Ferrari F40's. In fact, gone was the whole GT-1 class all together!

Even more unexciting was the fact that there were no battle's throughout the entire race, it went like this:

LMP900: POLE: Audi WIN: Audi
LMP675: POLE: Lola-Nissan WIN: Lola-Nissan
GTS: POLE: Oreca Viper WIN: Oreca Viper
GT: POLE: Porsche WIN: Porsche - how could they not, they were the whole class!

The most exciting part of the race was the crashes! Especially that white Viper that hit the wall, OUCH! But honestly, this 'Invitation Only' idea is crap. Whoever made that decision had better reconsider it, otherwise they won't see me watching Le Mans ever again.

Yeah I know, I was just trying to make it seem really bad. I mean, that Le Mans was really, really bad.

Cool

That Viper crash was really cool though. That was worth watching hours of racing.

24 hours of oval racing wouldn't be TOO bad........ as long as it was a demolition derby.

The whole invitational idea is to prevent having a Japaneese Marque win again like Mazada did a decade ago. If you are not invited you can't win....
Just my opinion,

My thoughts:

both the Rolex 24 hous of Daytona & 12 hours of Sebring were better (I attend each year)than this years Lemans.

Just my thoughts!

See what happens when only three properly funded and prepared factory teams show up.

Joest (Audi), Oreca (Viper), and Barbour (911GT3R) each was on a totally different playing field than any of their competition, and they dominated the race.

Case in point:
Audi had to change two gearboxes, time: less than five minutes each. Panoz had to change one at little over 20 minutes.

It would have been much more interesting if there were works teams from Porsche, Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari, Jaguar, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, or any other manufacturer. The Audi's and Viper's and Barbour's 911GT3R's couldn't have run away like they did.

Besides I liked watching the Mercedes become an airplane last year.

Have a Nice Day?

I love the Mercedes CLK-GTR's. I have the video of that crash too! It does like 4 flips in the air! I really wanted to see Toyota Supra's this year. Those things get going to like 210mph easily on the backstraight. God I love the JGTC, wish Speedvision covered it like they do the BTCC

R-Diamond you are absolutely right!!! What the hell was with the constant pit coverage?!?!? Wasn't there a race going on??? it was almost painful to watch! And could they have wasted any more time on the damn Caddy's??!!

They think that we care about all the pit strategies and skill, which is actually alot more of the race than you may think, but can't they just talk about it while we watch the cars. Once it went dark, it totally lost any excitement, and then the sun came back, pretty funny.

Actually I was more annoyed by the coverage. There were sooo many commercial interruptions, seemed like they stopped every 6 minutes for an OLN advertisement.

You'd get about a minute of disconnected track footage then 6 minutes of non-stop pit stop coverage. If I wanted that, I'd drive over to the all-night Jiffy Lube.

Obligatory Subie content: um, when is Subaru going to field a Le Mans car?

And they were showing the technicians sleeping instead of the race. Even though the race was just as boring Audi wasn't in the lead for what, 5 minutes?
