Try doing it yourself, its easier than even an oil change... Just unplug it and drain it, toss the plug back in and poor in the fluid!

u can get it changed at any garage EASY, but isnt 5000 miles kinda early to change them? i usually change them every 15k miles.

as for the oil, i'd recommand Redline GL-5. anything u use, stay away from mobile 1.

Hey John,
Thanks for telling people about me . Anyways, the tranny oil is SUPER DUPER WUPER easy...easier than engine oil. I can help you out whenever you need, or I could do it for you for the unbelievable price of McDonalds (plus tranny fluid).

Personally, I have only used Redline (with good results), but I will now be trying Motul at a later date.

Subaru Recommends the service at 30K miles.

3.5qts of tranmission fluid are needed (manual transmission)

The drain bolt is the big on on the bottom of the transmission (22mm), and the fill-up neck is underneath (passanger side) intercooler (same place as where you check transmission fluid level)

I would also like to know the precise steps to change Transmission oil. Don't you have to do the Rear Diff?

What is the stock transmission oil in WRX's?

thanks.

Here's the write-up I did when I changed mine. It is (as has been said) just as easy as changing the engine oil:

No...the transmission has a open differential in the front, and WRX (and other models?) have LSD's in the back... so the fluid has to contour to the needs of the whirling metal.

Thanks for the info John (truthfully) , I'll let you know when the seals go bad on tranny #1... tranny #2 will be all Motul baby!

Rich

Just letting people know... if they need it done for them, I will be happy to help (always free) /do it for then (for lunch snackies)

I do my own with a jack and a few support stands, aswell as others.

Draining is the thing that takes the longest... you can let it trickle overnight (like I did last time), or just for 30mins (most of everything is out by then) for the transmission. Now while thats draining the rear differential is the next thing. That takes about 15-30 mins (with draintime, cleaning, filling, etc.)

Leave 1.5-2 hoursfor everything and you'll be ok.

Rich

Additional Recommended Products:
a can of carb cleaner
blue threadlock (neccessity)
rubber gloves
shower afterwards (MANDATORY)
