Question Q: Should a Factory Turbo have Factory Guages? (Rex Question)

Reason I ask this is because, if I get the WRX and buy aftermarket guages would that screw up my warranty? I mean if an aftermarket boost gauges tells me I'm running 16 PSI when I'm running 22, I'm screwed.... But the way I see it is if it's a FACTORY installed Turbo, then I should get factory gauges so I can blame it on them and still be in warrenty if the gauges fail.... Is my thinking skewed or what?

That is why the dealers will make a killing with the dealer installed gauge pack. How could you live without it?

The only reason you'd need a boost guage is if you were upping the boost right. In that case, I think your waranty would have been void long before the aftermarket boost guage failed. A factory warranted guage wouldn't make any difference. Upping the boost would basically void the warranty for the entire powertrain.

Yeah, if you don't mess with the Turbo and the gauge is wrong, It's not your fault. If you do play with the boost, you are at your own risk

I was under the assumption that any fuel/air mods to a turbo'ed car would change the gauges... like headers/exhaust/gutting the cats... whatever....

a/f mods will give more boost, and a crappy factory guage would read wrong. but those mods would not cause the turbo to fail, and there is nothing wrong with adding a aftermarket guage as far as warranty is concerned.
