Question Sears Point Track Day

Hello all....

I have been reading and posting on for sometime and just picked up my 04 WRX from Santa Cruz on Friday....needless to say I had a blast driving it back up Highway 1 to San Francisco. Then spent Sat running out to Point Reyes - great drive.

Anyway, I have not done any mods - only got the short shifter. I was planing on going to Sears Point track day and getting up to speed on how to drive this car and what she can do.

Is anyone going?

I would like to meet other WRX owners and chat about mods. I have a few questions, but would also like to meet fellow enthusist.

Regards...

Which track day are you talking about.

There is a HPDS (high performance driving school) at Thunderhill Nov 15th. I will be attending, can't wait.

Congrats on your new car.

I was looking at attending one of the HPDS days at Sears Point. I notce that they have them at Sears Point, Laguna Seca, and Thunder Hill. I have been to both Sears Point and Laguna Seca to watch CART or ALMS, but I have never been to Thunder Hill.

I just got the car on Friday and took it for a blazingly fast ride out to Point Reyes Light House...Great fun road to drive...and only 3 cars on it while I was heading out there.

I will look into Thunder Hill and check my schedule.

I hope to see you there.

Any other WRXers heading to Thunder Hill or Sears Point?

Not breaking it in?

That is a nice drive though, taken that at least 40 times.

Smile Keeping under 4k RPM

Well, I did drive fast - but not aggressively so.

I kept the car under 4k rpm in all gears and shifted early to keep RPMS to a minium.

However - I did drive faster then the posted signs

I drove mostly in 5 gear, while the road is a 3rd / 4th gear drive. Which meant that my driving experience was more on the tame side.

But hey - it was better then my 1984 Jeep CJ7, which thinks 70mph is light-speed.

So what color did you get?

here is my 04:

There are weekly Tuesday night meets at Krispy Kremes in Union City. I've only been to one so far but it was fun.

Smile Blue WRX

I had to go with the Blue. I love Blue and my wife also likes it.

We had the premium package installed and my wife loves the heated seats and sunroof.

I also had the short-shifter installed.

Congrats on the purchase, i took 1 all the way back to san bruno myself also when i picked up my car, great drive, but not very good for break in seeing as how i was traveling at a constant speed/rev the whole time.

Default Try Point Reyes

You should try the road out to Point Reyes or the Bolinas FairFax road. Very few cars and very windy roads.

You would have a ball if you like that kind of driving.

For rally drivers -
I know one of the greatest rally roads with almost NO traffic. There is actually a couple of very shallow river crossings (about 6"), some hills, and lots of corners. Unfortunatly, it is a good drive to get there.

Regards....

Lionfish42,

Congrats on the purchase! And if you're interested in going to a track day at Sears Point, NASA has HPDE events there. I think they are going to have an event there on the 22 and 23 of Nov. You can go to www.nasaproracing.com.

The HPDE events are great to test your car's performance. I was just there last Saturday with my STi. I had a blast. Good luck and be sure to go AFTER your break-in period.

Smile Rally Road

It takes some time to get there, but there are both great dirt roads and paved roads with little to no traffic.

The location: The Lost Coast

Take 101 North past Mendicino county. There is a small town called Redway. You want to exit here and head west. The road is called the Shelter Cove Road.

-------------------------

Shelter Cove Road:
(From Redway to Shelter Cove - From East to West)
Paved - very windy, single lane, no dividing line, elevation changes
(Very light traffic)

---------------------------

Kings Peak Road: (Just East of Shelter Cove runing north to Honeydue)
Dirt - two creek crossing, some big hills and jumps, some big sweepers.
(Almost no traffic - a jeep now and then)
(Note: A couple of camp sites along this route)

---------------------------

Wilder Road: (From Briceland - Shelter Cove Rd to Honeydue)
Paved - very windy, single lane, no dividing line
(Very light Traffic)
(Note: There is a bar/burger place in Honeydue - but if you stop you will feel like you just step onto a set from Delieverance - Whoa! I don't think they even know what a Subaru is...)

------------------------------

There are some other roads up there like the Mattole Road - very nice - it runs through Honeydue and out to the coast.

Along the coast there are several dirt roads and there is another dirt road running south from Shelter Cove into the National Forest.

If you like camping there are several campsites around the Lost Coast.

This area is great, very few tourist, fishing, camping, great dirt and paved roads, almost no traffic.

I drove the King's Peak road several times and never saw a single car or truck.

The Kings Peak Range along the Lost Coast is the highest point in the US along the water. Kings Peak I believe is 4200 feet. Great sites.

I have been up there alot with my CJ7, but I am looking forward to taking the WRX out for an extended weekend trip.

Regards...
