Post Intermidiate Wipers?????

Hi.

I tried to add an additional unit to the stock wipers to make time delay adjustable from 2 to 20 sec.

Guess what? It aint possible. There is only 1 wire going to the little handle on the wheel and all controlling relays and such are in there.

Any ideas on how to get ADJUSTABLE intermideate wipers?

Eugene

Here's my theory, Go get the stalk from a wrecked Legacy GT. It should work fine. Or at least it sounds like a good idea. I was going to try this, but I'm too lazy. If it works, let us know because I'd like to do it also.

I want to try that too. I hate only having low, med., and high. If anybody does this I would like to know the results. Thanks.

I agree that what is stock sucks. I will keep an eye out for a solution. A fix for this would be great.

I know how you feel. I bought a new MY99 and i didn't have it much to my disgust. And then guess what Subaru did (at least for the Aust' model)? They stuck them in the MY00. My advice: Get an MY00!!

Excuse me? My '01 doesn't have it... did they put it in for '00 and take it back out for the last run? I don't think so...
If I can find a Subaru wrecking yard I'll do some research.

The US spec Impreza RS NEVER had variable intermittent wipers. It was one of the many cost cutting measures FHI made to bring the Impreza to the US. Other less "budget conscious" countries get more goodies on their RS's........remote fuel filler doors, trunk lights, adjustabe interval wipers...etc...

My wipers are still Novice, not quite intermediate coz I use Rain-X! With Rain-X, my wipers aren't needed to wipe off the rain. So, basically, they're still novice wipers.

Anyone here with Expert wipers?

The Fly - Sorry about that... didn't mean to sound so snappy, and I didn't look where you're from.

Intermittent wipers. . .
Here's the ongoing scoop. Today I tried two different wrecking yards in the area looking for a late model Legacy GT or SUS. I'll be darned if neither of them had one. The closest I got was a '98 Legacy L. No good, it's got the same wipers as us. Hmm. Should have pulled the part to see.

ANYWAY, back on track. Tomorrow I'm going into the dealer to a) get my leather put in and pin stripes taken off, and b) While it's over there I'm going to compare parts on the Legacy.
I'm doing this because nobody else seems to be willing to invest the time. From the junkyard the stalk will run about $125, so this isn't going to be cheap.

Additionally, there are like 4 wires running up the stalk, but they are in a black shrink-wrap thing where they're visible. You could in theory figure out which one to tap into for the dash mounted rheostat, but that'd be ugly.
I'll let you know when I find out anything further.

PS, for those of you who would also like to try this, the stalk comes out easily. Three screws to remove the column cover, then two to remove the stalk, unplug the wires (ten of them!??). I won't have my car for a few days, so if somebody beats me to it, let me know.

Here's an update on my INTERMITTENT wiper project..

Today my RS went into the shop, and I got a nice(?) MY00 Outback wagon. First thing I did was pull it into the garage and take apart the steering column. Very interesting. The '01 RS has three screws, the '00 Outback has just one. The RS has ten wires going into the plug, the OB has 8 (shoot. Either 8 or 6). BUT the plug is the same... the switch is the same. That just means I need to find one with the variable wipers and get the switch and test it... it'll plug right in.
