Question about HID for the STi...thousgh it may be relevant to all HID, I don't know. Thats why I'm asking.
My friend told me not to turn the car off with the HID's on. Something about when the car is tunned on and they are drawing current from the battery briefly in "ACC" with the key. Like the flicker and the power surge is bad for them. Its better to turn them off untill the car is started, then turn them on? Will leaving them on actually hurt them? Is there any merit to this? Thanks.

Ideally it's best to turn them on and off with the car still running. It probably isn't that bad to accidentally leave them on and shut the car off as long as you then turn the switch off. Starting the car with them turned on would be more potentially harmful because they would come on when the key is first turned to run, then go off as the engine is cranked, then come on again when back in run. You'd be putting them through two startup cycles in a very short time which isn't good. It's also not good for the car's electrical system because of the high current the HIDs draw when they are first turned on.
